    Educational Version Install?

I am using the demo version of media composer. I want to buy the educational version?

Do I need to completely uninstall the demo version? What is the best way to install a new educational version of media composer and not have any conflicts?

    Re: Educational Version Install?

usually the installer itself will uninstall the older version but you can do it yourself ahead of time (and reboot). edu version is no different than the commercial...          sasha

    Re: Educational Version Install?

As Sasha1 noted, you should uninstall the editor by following the instructions located in the Media Composer ReadMe starting on page 12.  You should also check your system for any licensing files before you install a and activate a new purchase.

For version 3.5 and 7.5 check and if there - remove the following:

    Windows XP

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Avid Editor Name\Settings\

        Utlfcfgdata

        Utlcfdata

        Avid License Data

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pinnacle\Pixie\ (Show Hidden Folders if not found)

        *.PF2

        *.PP2

    Vista 32 and 64

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Settings\ (Show Hidden Folders if not found)

        Utlfcfgdata

        Utlcfdata

        Avid License Data

    C:\ProgramData\Pinnacle\Pixie

        *.PF2

        *.PP2

    Mac

    \\Applications\Avid Media Composer\\Settings

        Utlfcfgdata

        Utlcfdata

        Avid License Data

    \\Library\ApplicationSupport\Avid\Pixie\

        *.PF2

        *.PP2

For version 4.0 and 8.0 and higher remove the following if on the system:

    Windows XP

     C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Avid\SWL

        Utlfcfgdata

        Utlcfdata

     C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Avid\Pixie

        *.PF2

        *.PP2

    Vista 32 and 64

     C:\ProgramData\Avid\SWL

        Utlfcfgdata

        Utlcfdata

     C:\ProgramData\Avid\Pixie

        *.PF2

        *.PP2

    MAC

     HD\Library\Application Support\Avid\SWL

        Utlfcfgdata

        Utlcfdata

     HD\Library\Application Support\Avid\Pixie

        *.PF2

        *.PP2

If the files are not there they go ahead and buy/install the new editor and off you go.

    Thank you both.

I just talked w/ a salesman at Avid. He said something to the effect of, "don't worry about installing the new educational version, both versions are the same. When MC starts, at the prompt enter the registration info it asks for and that's it." Having worked w/ various versions of Media Composer since 1997 I knew this sounded too easy. I just ordered the software. We will see.

Thanks for all the information & effort you give Marianna. It does not go unnoticed.

Rastus....   your last comment just made my day :)

It is never as easy as it seems.  If the trial is not over, then you will need to do a bit more.  If you have any issues when you get to that point, just ping me.... only an email away.
