• Re: Xpress Pro Studio HD Upgrade?

Hi Clive, Thanks for that. Yeah I'm aware Xpro was discontinued, but had no need to upgrade at the time since I wasn't editing. If the upgrade path is still available, I'd be interested, but can't really afford to do so if it means having to upgrade the PC also- might have to max-out the version I have and live with it. Useful to know

Hi Carl, Thanks for the reply! OK, if my current setup is likely powerful enough that's great - I have other film budget concerns, as you might imagine! I've checked on the dongle, which says 5.1, but I remember downloading later authorised versions than that on the Avid site back in the day and currently running 5.2.1 - is it because I haven't

  • Xpress Pro Studio HD Upgrade?

Hi all, Haven't used my Avid system for years since becoming a screenwriter by trade, but need to cut an indie feature I'm directing soon. Will be shooting on the ubiquitous 5Dmkii and wondering if- a) my current Avid setup ( Xpress Studio HD 5.2.1, HPxw8200 3.4GHz DP, 2GB RAM, Quadro FX-1400, 2x500GB Internal HDD, G-Raid 500GB external ) will

  • Avid DVD Error

Hi Trying in vain (once again) to get Avid DVD to work. It really does seem to be the most appalling piece of software - every time a different error. Anyway, this one really has me stumped and no amount of me messing around seems to be achieving anything. Have to get a DVD burned and to a client over the weekend so would really appreciate any help

Thanks! By 'for viewing purposes' do you mean the quality is only sufficient for personal use and not viewings/projection, or do you just mean it'd be the film only without menus?
Good note. For this job there will be a finish in iQ for color grading and compositing. My thought was to get them tiff sequences of the conformed layers if they can't work with an EDLs to conform from the original files.
As I understand it, processes such as colour grading and compositing are exactly where
Hi James When it comes to qualifying systems, it is a lengthy procedure to test the machines from stem to stern; as a result, Avid can only spend the time testing a certain number of systems for qualification and in selecting the systems, they go with the manufacturers' top of the line systems (i.e. in this case,

If outputting to HDCAM is your ultimate goal, consider the following (figures in dollars; not sure of the UK rates): Cost of MX02 Mini-$449 (I think) Cost of 2 hours of online facility time to output-$400-$500 versus Cost of purchasing I/O to print to tape: $1500-$3000. Sorry to thread hijack, but in some ways this thread is so similar to what I needed to ask it seemed appropriate. I've also cut shorts and two features on Avid (as well as the day-to-day choreporate jobs) and love the Avid way of cutting, media management, etc. I've tried using FCP and Premiere and not got on with them at all. Not flaming, just
