  • Re: Downconvert from UHD to HD

Hi Joachim, Thank you for much for this. I use Scenarist BD and it also prohibits BD authoring in 1080/59.94p (I'm from USA-NewYork). I tried BD-Author and yes you are right that it works perfectly. I will use the non-BD-standard at 1080-59.94P (progressive) since my discs are for duplication. I'm sure for replication i'll have to make the

Hi Joachim, 59.94p is not part of the BD-Standard, so how are you able to author and burn it? I use Scenarist BD authoring software and it will not let me import any 59.94p 1080p H.264 files as it is not compatible with the spec. Can you tell me what your workflow is to burn 59.94p 1080p Blu-ray. Thanks, Asaf

Also, upon further testing, it looks like with Blackmagic's UHD to HD hardware downconvert, there is an anti-aliasing filter applied, making the image a bit softer, but i don't see any aliasing. With Avid I definitely see aliasing. So which one would be better - i guess it depends on the client's decision. In any event, I'm curious what

I took my UHD 59.94P footage and converted to HD 1080i using Avid and what you folks told me to do method-wise. I have to say it looks very sharp and excellent. I do see a few aliasing here and there, but it's very minimal. Looks like Blackmagic UHD downconvert has an anti-alias filter which makes everything looks softer. Conclusions? Which would

Also does it make more sense to go from UHD 59.94P to 720 59.94P for Blu-ray? Even though resolution is less, i don't have to worry about frame conversion. Using Premiere Pro with Maximum Render Quality scaling looks extremely sharp.

  • Downconvert from UHD to HD

Hello, I have DVX200 / GH5 footage shot in UHD 59.94P, editing in Avid MC. I want to downconvert the footage to HD 1080i 59.94 for output to HD Blu-ray. I tried my Decklink card's UHD to HD HARDWARE downconverter, but everything looks kind of soft. Is there any other methods you recommend to get a nice sharp HD image in 1080i for Blu-ray? Looking

  • Re: What Avid Media Composer Should Have in 2018

Thank you for all of your posts. I pretty much (frustratingly) decided to end up using both Avid and Premiere Pro. If I don't have to do any have VFX or titles, i'll use Avid. But if a client wants me to put up lots of titles, etc. it's Premiere all the way. Much easier instead of AAF-ing back and forth. *sigh* :((

All great points folks, well, even with all these limitations, i still prefer editing on Avid than Premiere. Solid media management for sure. Yes, Avid lacks what Adobe has - amazing titler, easy ability to import and create graphics. etc. etc. I just feel that Avid's strength is in the editing tools. Basically what I do now is AAF export from timeline
