  • Re: Using 4K in MC 2018.8

I'd install the relevant Red AMA plugin. Link your AMA clips into a new bin. Transcode to you hgh quality DNx codec to match the other media. You may want to test what de-beyer setting works best. Its called Linked Source scaling/quality in the transcode window. With 4K sources for an HD output half best or half good is all you need. 1/4 1/8 or

  • Re: DNxHD 90 files linked as Avid DNx Codec rather than DNxHD 90

Oh we know the Avid QuickTime AMA plugin is undergoing signidicant changes as they gear up to not being reliant on the old legacy QT engine. And that will have unexpected implications. Best to raise it as a support issue and ensure engineering know the issue exists.

  • Re: Up-rez a 1080p full HD project to a 2K version

If you need it to be 2K wide and its already 1080 tall then I'd pad black on the Left and right to make up the difference. Otherwise you are stretching the picture wider and knocking the aspect out or cropping top and bottom and losing quality.

  • Re: FrameFlex causes performance issues

Its worth noting that Frameflex, Source colour adapters and others are all realtime effects so yes there will be a perfomance hit if they are unrendered. If you need realtime playback then experimenting with the media cache is a good start (if you have plenty of RAM)

  • Re: Problem linking a renamed MXF file.

Yes the AMA media databases can be a real pain. The biggest regular issue I see is users AMA link to a removeable drive to test a file. All good so they move the file to local storage and relink. All good. But check the source path for the file and it points to the original first AMA link. A nightmare when it goes to conform. Diable AMA managed media

  • Re: grading

Do you know the graders system can relink the timeline based on your new columns? You need to test that.

  • Re: grading

Sounds like you Imported the files and not AMA linked them. which is a shame. Import makes new Avid media You will have to try sending a test AFF to the grader to see if they can access any source info.

  • Re: grading

How did you ingest the sources? AMA link? Did you add a tape name for the clips (does the tape column have any info in it?) if a clip has a tape associated with it Avid wipes the source file and source path info.

  • Re: grading

Did you rename the files at finder/os level (if so why) or just rename the clips? When you AMA link a clip into Avid the clip name shown in the bin may start off as the filename but the actual file name is stored in the source file name column. This is whats used by the grader. Not the clip name. Clip names are completely user editable.
