  • Re: how to create subtitle file that can be imported

The avid subcap tool is very particular when it comes to the input file. Please be sure it looks exacly like this: @ This file written with the Avid Caption plugin, version 1 <begin subtitles> 01:00:05:00 01:00:10:00 the red LED counter on the inside voting machine shows how many cards have been 01:00:10:00 01:00:16:00 inserted and are stored

I aplogize for resurrecting an old post, but I wanted to save my findings for posterity If you use Subtitle Workshop (awesome free program providing easy GUI for caption/subtitle editing), you can create a custom exporter that will import to the SubCap tool in Avid. Once you have the caption data setup in Subtitle Workshop, File-Save As-Custom Format

  • Re: Need to move media to new drive?

Lets back up a bit... put your media in the F:/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1/ folder - this is very specific folder structure and avid will not see any media not in the Drive Letter:/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/# structure. Please note it is "Avid MediaFiles" not Avid Media Files as in your post delete any msmFMID.pmr and msmMMOB.mdb files in any Avid MediaFiles

  • Re: Need to move media to new drive?

Hey bushfilm- the media should not be in the /creating folder, rather the /1 folder. In the /1 folder there should be the 2 database files - msmFMID.pmr and msmMMOB.mdb - delete those and then restart avid and they should get rebuilt. All media should be in the /# folder good luck!

Avid MDV is your friend. Here is a link with some info: http://community.avid.com/forums/t/7209.aspx I have been using the program for over 5 years and I consider it essential for any Avid editor. Good luck!

  • Re: Linking MXF Files

Hi Sam- If the mxf files are in the proper folder structure (Drive:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\) delete the msmFMID.pmr & msmMMOB.mdb files in the folder. Avid will rebuild the databases and should point ot the proper drive/folder. Good luck. tom

  • Re: Workspaces Track Heights

You need to link the timeline setting to a workspace. After you name the timeline setting, select Windows-Workspaces-Properties and click link to Named Settings and type the name. Any setting with that name will become active when you select that workspace. Good luck.

  • Re: Using Adobe Media Encoder Instead Of Squeeze Not Working

Since CS4ish, Adobe has not played well with combined Audio & Video Avid QT Ref exports... the audio track will cause a render to crash. I found the same problem with AME. Using AE, if you export export audio & video separately (separate exports) and then marry them, your render will proceed. I haven't found a way to add a discrete audio

  • Re: DNxHD QTs and the Alpha Channel

Make sure you also adjust the codec setting in AE. Output Module Settings - Format Options... - Codec Settings - Make sure an alpha option is selected. I'm able to regularly create an DNxHD QT with alpha from AE. Good luck. tom
