• Strange Icon

When dragging a clip from a bin to the source moitor or timeline I noticed a new icon today. It's a purple circle with a "1" in it. This seems to be new since 2019.11 -- or at least I've never noticed it before. It isn't doing any harm. Is it something useful?

  • Re: Can MC export interlaced 1080i25 XDCAM?

I'm assuming you are in progressive project. Create a new 50i project. Use "open Bin" to navigate to the the bin with your timeline. Open the timeline, Avid will ask if you want to create a copy with the current settings. Say yes. Export.

  • Re: copy files to another drive without consolidating

It should automatically repopulate the clips in the project with the new media. You can also try "refresh media directories" and/or delete the media database files (msmFMID.pmr and msmMMOB.mdb) in the Avid MediaFiles/MXF/## folders and it will rebuild. Another thing to try is to open the Media Tool, select all projects and the new drive, and

  • Re: copy files to another drive without consolidating

As long as the drive is recognized by the computer and the files are in the proper Avid MediaFiles/MXF/## file structure, and they are valid mxf files, Avid will find them on startup. (Or on "refresh media directories" command.)

  • Re: Rendering nested effects

This is a sideways answer to your question. I have all but given up on rendering. When I need to render I do a video mixdown of the section instead, and cut it into a higher track. Why? because a mixdown requires the same amount of disk space as a render and is easier to find and delete when its no longer needed. If you're doing simple trims, cut

You can set up your preferred timeline views, then name, save and recall them with the view menu at the bottom of the timeline window. Can't assign them to key commands, but it's faster than manually resizing every time.
you can actually assign them to KB shortcuts

  • Re: How to delete a specific effect when working with multieffects

I thought you could delete stacked effects in the effects editor -- but it looks like that is not possibe. This might be a good feature request. Meanwhile, mapping step in, step out and delete effect to the keyboard will make the task less onerous.

  • Re: Media Composer 2019.9 Install Problem

Coming from the PC side, I had an installation issue too -- but this may be useful. I tried three times to install, finally getting it to work by right clicking on the Avid Media Compser.msi file. But I THINK what made the difference was clearing the old installation folder from my c: drive. I BELIEVE the new installer was looking into the old folder
