  • Re: how to create subtitle file that can be imported

There isn't really anything called the "Avid Caption" plugin - it's just that if you have some subtitles already in the SubCap generator on a timeline, and go to the Caption Files / Export caption data section and select Avid DS as the export format, you'll produce a text file that starts with the comment line "This file written

  • Re: Adding Subtitles

The Subcap effect isn't really designed for adding subtitles from scratch, but more aimed at importing subtitle data files (e.g. Avid DS format). These are usually prepared by subtitlers using specialist software. Google "Mac subtitle editors" for more info. Good subtitling is a skilled business, often slightly paraphrasing what's

I don't know about the other programmes smrpix mentioned, but Belle Nuit could help. It actually has a "transcript" mode as one of its import options, and it will produce DS format files that SubCap can import. You'll still need to add timecodes in Belle Nuit first, though. There's a demo version you can try.

Would Modify / Set Source do the trick? Haven't checked on Interplay.

  • Re: SubCap fx is a nightmare

Hi Jailer, If you're trying to reimport a subtitle file where only some subtitles have worked, make sure you've deleted everything on the subtitle track, and then apply a new blank subcap effect to the whole track first. Also, when you're importing and get to the "Select a caption file to import" window, drag the bottom right corner

  • Re: Problem to export 16:9 with subcap

Try making a video mixdown of the whole sequence (making sure you use the same media format as your video source clip), then make a copy of the sequence and use the new mixdown clip to replace all video content on the new sequence. Then export from the new sequence. At least that way you will only have one video format to deal with...

  • Re: Fast Importing

Hmm, 6 hours to import subtitles...! If you can get the subtitles produced in "Avid DS" format instead, (basically a text file of subtitles and their timings) then importing them using the Avid Subcap generator effect would take only a few seconds. You would have less control over the visual style of the text, though it's fine for most

  • Re: Subtitles-made file but doesn't work after import into MC

Hi Yun, To check that you have the layout of your text file correct, try making a couple of subtitles in Avid using the subcap tool, and then export them as a DS format file. Compare that text file with yours. I think the file also needs to be in UTF-16 mode - this can set using the free text editor called "TextWrangler".

  • Re: Title Tool Bug

Have you looked at the Subcap generator as an alternative? At least it makes all subtitles have exactly the same size and position, etc, and if you want to change anything, whatever style changes you make show on all subtitles straight away.
