Resize or move one layer without affecting lower layer

Here's what I'm doing. I'm drawing an animatte around a guy to key out the background, on V2. I have a plate of the same background with no one in it on V1. I want to raise the guy so he looks like he's floating, but when I drop a resize or 3d Warp on V2 to move him, it moves the V1 image too. I know this has been discussed before in the past, but I was wondering if 5.5 had finally resolved this. I was going to try and put the move under the Animatte, and then just move the animatte, but for some reason when I move the animatte my drawing around the body doesn't quite fit. Very frustrating. It would've been much better if they had shot in front of green screen, or just put the guy on an applebox, because then I could just get rid of the box.

    Thanks in advance
