    The future for AS...

    I bought my first avid symphony 10 years ago. It was expensive but I have thougt it was worth the money. Untill now. The introduction of V 5. Smart tools that are not smart at all, actually quite stupid mostly. Looks more like FCP.....

    IE. Why Apple X  and V turns on the smart tool and forces me into segment mode is not smart for me....

    Keyframes.....  its 2010....

    Anyway; In ten years we have asked for;

    Normal.dotm 0 0 1 774 4415 Progrssive Film as 36 8 5421 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Times; panose-1:2 0 5 0 0 0 0 0 0 0; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;} @font-face {font-family:Cambria; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Cambria; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} p {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Times; mso-fareast-font-family:Cambria; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Times; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;}

    Un-collapse.....

    Match framing of Graphics files...

    Modern alpha channel management.....

    New paint package.....

    Softedge in dropshaddow....

    Ability to copy and paste effects.....

    Background rendering....   Come on... Imovie had this in V1 10 years ago!!!

    Ability to select color at once i dip to color....

    Insted the V5  gives me a FCP like tool only 20 times as expensive.... This is not a good development.

    Re: The future for AS...

    Finishing is a very small part of Avid's market. So we haven't received the R&D bucks that the rest of the line has. Also, the previous management didn't listen to the user base, so there was zero help. The new regime is listening, and doing something. Hopefully we will get something in the next revision.

    Same problem, different name. Avid hasn't valued finishing since the 90s.

    Yet other companies have (Quantel, autodesk), and it shows when you work on their systems.  Total Conform of 15 year-old effects and finishing capabilities is hardly competitive, IMHO...
