    HP xw9300 memory issue

Running our second symphony nitris ds on an HP xw9300

we have 4 gigs of ram but windows 7 64 bit is only accessing 2.64 of it

needless to say it's pretty slow

just ram memory diagnostic it says all is fine

how can i access the rest? is the a bios setting somewhere?

we're getting more ram next week but it's pointless if it's not being accessed isn't it?

Thanks in advance for any help

There is a Memory Remapping BIOS setting for x64 that should be enabled.

Bob that did it, thanks so much.

we're adding another 4 gigs of ram on monday to bring us up to 8,

is there any point going higher that that since avid is still a 32 bit app?

    Cheers, Steve Jones

As far as Symphony is concerned, there's no specific benefit. I did get an old KB document that was written by Samantha in Tech Support on how SN Classic deals with RAM in XP 32 that might be helpful. In X64 the Nitris hardware (Both Classic and DX) and Symphony software live on different layers, so the RAM that is lost to the Symphony software XP32 isn't in X64. The Symphony will now have access to a full 4 Gig or RAM with the Nitris Hardware using its own RAM. I think you'll be really happy with X64 and RAM upgrade.

Are you using the computer with CS5? It will certainly use all the RAM in the computer.

Avid can access up to 4GB's of RAM, providing there's more than 4GB's total for the OS to use.  If there's only 4GB's total, the OS will use some, leaving less than 4GB for Avid.  So, yes, increasing the RAM to 8GB's will now give Avid access to the full 4 it can address.
