MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

I'm not entirely sure if this is related but since updating to MC 4.0.2 I had no problems until yesterday when I installed BCC 6.0 followed by the BCC 6.0.5 patch, after which MC doesn't close properly (hangs after unloading the project) but only after I've played with Avid FX...????

OK - I installed BCC 6 over my BCC 5.0.4 installation - Boris claims you can do that. I'm thinking that I might have to uninstall Avid FX and BCC and then reinstall.

The other possibility is that my troubles are related to the project - I'm working on a pre-4.0.2 project - maybe there's something else going on there.

I'm going to do more experimenting and will report back. Just thought I'd put some feelers out there in case anyone else has seen this.

    BTW - I'm using an FX 3700...

    Cheers

Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

OK - did some further testing. Removed Avid FX and BCC then reinstalled these two but held off on the BCC 6.0.5 patch.

No problems with MC 4.0.2 exiting...

Installed the 6.0.5 patch - bang - All I have to do is open a sequence with a BCC effect present and I can't exit MC without killing it.

If I get some time over the weekend, I'll completely uninstall everything and reinstall to see what's what.

One interesting thing to note. After uninstalling Avid FX and BCC I couldn't install either of them because of a problem in the registry. the AVX2Directory path was set to %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Avid\AVX2_Plug-ins and for some reason the installers couldn't figure out what %ProgramFiles(x86)% was. I changed it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\AVX2_Plug-ins\ and both products installed without issue... Something odd here...

One more thing - when I installed BCC 6.0.5 patch it didn't really install like a patch which has me concerned - it ran as if I was running the original installation again - it came up with the Modify, Repair, Uninstall options rather than the expected sequence.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Yes, I am seeing the same thing when installing 6,05 - downgrading to 6,0 , I am still on 3,54.

The middle option Repair is the one that have to be selected

Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

Yes - the middle option is the one I selected. I wouldn't have thought twice execpt for the problems I've been having shutting down MC.

Funny enough, 3.5.4 had a problem shutting down MC if you happen to have an FX 3700. The symptoms were different but... definitely related to the 6.0.5 patch, though.

One other symptom - when MC is in this state where it won't close, it's pumping one of my cores at 100%...

Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

I haven´t seen any probs yet neither with 3,54 and Version 6,0 nor 6,05 on my main editing sys with an FX 1800 card.

On my second sys, with a Geforce 7800 GTX and 6,05 I have seen something that might be card mem related when using certain filters, for example the opt stabilizer, that card is however not certified.

It might take me a month or two before upgrading to 4,02, have some things that have to be finished first.

Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

My guess is that there may be an incompatibility between MC 4.0.2, BCC 6.0.5 and my FX 3700 - it will take some time before users with that configuration filter through the system.

In the mean time, I'm going to uninstall Avid FX, BCC and MC (along with all it's associated apps) and perform a close-to-clean installation. See if that makes any difference.

On a positive note, the hang appears to be after MC has successfully closed the project so I'm not losing any work (AFAIK).

    Thanks for the feedback, Tomas.

More or less. The bins, timeline and monitor windows all close down when I answer Yes to 'Is is ok to exit' (or whatever the wording is). Then I've got a blank media composer window with just the menu bar....

    And there it sits forever....

I have to force close the app....

Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

Thanks Marianna - I'll be interested to see what's up with this.

For whomever might be interested - BCC 6 shipping with MC 4 and in the Productivity Pack is actually BCC 6.0.4 and it has the new features described for the release of 6.0.5 (animated presets, new optical stablilizer, etc.) - so for me, I'm just going to skip 6.0.5 for the moment since 6.0.4 seems just fine.

I have install the trial for both 4 and 6.0.5.

There is not something wrong here.

And there is that excellent Swish Pan Transition Filter.

    Is this on 6.0.4?

Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

    Yes - the swish/pan is in 6.0.4

    No IE 8

I would say the most likely answer is an issue with my FX 3700 which had a shutdown issue with 3.5.4 for which a special patch was released as you may recall.

Would have been helpful if Boris had published a change history from 6.0.4 to 6.0.5 (what did they break)?

So.... I'm waiting to hear from someone else with an FX 3700 running MC 4.0.2 and BCC 6.0.5...

Thanks for the suggestions (BTW - Tomas - Isn't MC 4.0.2 certified to work with Vista Ultimate 64 w/ SP2?).

    Thanks guys,

Yes, of course, they have even removed SP1 from the certified OS list now, I was just thinking ...  all apps are so newly released
