Re: Basic MC Tutorials - Series 2

There seems to be some confusion (because of possible changes in the established workflow, when assigning new workspaces to the keyboard)

I have a possible solution to a workaround posted HERE on my Tutorials page on Screencast.

    Just a reminder:

If you would like information about my newer tutorials, please email me offlist and ask to be added to my mailing list.

The next Tutorial that will be released soon is about the use of Avid FX in rotoscoping.

You can see a very very short example of what I will be describing in the upcoming tutorial HERE

All Tutorials presently projected deal with AvidFX (Boris RED).

Remember that if you have Media Composer 6.0 or higher, you got a free copy of Avid FX on the download.

An update to my previous post:

The effect of walking through a title seemed to be "easy-peasy" for some readers, so I decided to make a more challenging rotoscoping effect to use for the base of the new tutorials.

The new effect that I will be describing in the Rotoscoping Tutorials can be seen HERE

Re: Basic MC Tutorials - Series 2

Avid FX 6 is very similar to Avid FX 5, when it comes to functions and controls.

Despite this fact I see many posts from users who are struggling with the change.

I made this little video today to try and show how similar the two versions really are

    http://www.screencast.com/t/IGYFNQ5pNV0

The next series of tutorials, which I am now in the middle of producing, will be called "Learning to crawl in Avid FX/ Boris RED" and will, hopefully, help many of you who are struggling with the interface and the controls.

Re: Basic MC Tutorials - Series 2

I have added a downloadable PDF file, listing all the Tutorials available from my site, at the following location:

    HERE

On that page you will also find a link to about 50 free tutorials that are accessible on my Screencast site.
Those tutorials are a veritable mixture of styles and content. Some are just "trailers" for other tutorials of mine, others were made in answer to questions on the Forums etc. . . . . . . .  but they are FREE!  (Please don't report me for breaking the rules of the "Council for the Preservation of Scottishness" Geeked )

I've added a new Judorial to my Judorials page at http://www.gaijin-eyes.com/June2010DD/judorials.html

I was inspired to make it after reading a Forum post where a member asked if anyone knew how to do the effect.

thanks your tutorials are very good. We need over MC 6.

Nowadays there are many tutorials on MC6, by other people.

I don't have any quick links to them, but I am sure someone else will provide them for you.

Also Lynda.com have a large selection of good tutorials on MC 6

For my part, I continue making tutorials, but they are mainly on 3rd party applications like Avid FX.

You can find those tutorials and more HERE

Most of the tutorials there have closed captions in English

Re: Basic MC Tutorials - Series 2

With an increasing number of MC users either posting on the Forums or mailing me direct about the difficulties in playing back my 200+ tutorials from the Avid site I have just completed a project to try and help out.

First of all anyone having trouble with playback can usually solve the problem by trying the links in FIREFOX.
It seems to be able to handle things much more successfully these days.

My project has been to put the first 200 of my tutorials onto a USB Flash Drive.
They have been built into a mini-website that lives on the USB drive.
the website plays locally from the drive

Unfortunately the USB drive will not be free, unlike the tutorials here.
But there will be advantages in that you can easily access a pdf index as well as Tables of Contents for each section of tutorials and directly open the Tutorial that you want to watch.

My own site's page, that lists the Original 200 MC Tutorials, has now a link to more information about the USB Flash Drive version. That page  is HERE . Take a look and see if you can find the link Geeked

If you would like to watch a short video about the Flash Drive project you should look HERE

    Learning Curves and Avid FX

If you approach Avid FX from the correct angle you will find that there is a very small learning curve.

In the following video I explain a little about my approach and also include a free tutorial on Avid FX to show you how easy it really is.

Re: Basic MC Tutorials - Series 2

From time to time I check out the total number of views that the two "Basic MC Tutorials" threads have had.

Right now it stands at 493,880
Only about 6,000 left before they reach the half million mark (500,000) Geeked
At the present rate of viewing that goal should be reached before Christmas!

    Maybe I'll retire then?

It's not only that Douglas: the software has so many features that an editor can easily forget the less used ones; as a "seasoned user" I have to say that I went thru a couple of Your tutorials since they popped out!
