Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

I think the Gefen is probably about the same price as Panasonic's SDI card. However the Gefen can be used other places...

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

Just read an interesting article by Allan Tepper at ProVideoCoalition.

Seems like the AJA Hi5-3G might resolve the PsF issue.

Click Here and scroll down to the text I highlighted in yellow.

Anyone have experience with this product -- for this application?

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

Spoke to AJA tech marketing.  Seems like the Hi5-3G will do what is needed.

Whatever goes in to the box over SD/HD-SDI -- goes out over HDMI -- with the exception that psF formats are unified into progressive formats using the device's internal frame buffer (which, interestingly, the F1 does not have).

    The Hi5-3G will automatically convert 1080psF 23.98 (23.976) and 24 to progressive.

And, using the USB-based configuration feature, you can set the box to convert 1080psF 25, 29.97 and 30 to progressive as well.

Half the price of the Gefen at  Under $600 at B & H

According to the manuals, the Nitris DX and Mojo DX handle the following formats as psF:

    • 1080p/29.97 (transmitted as 1080PsF/29.97)
    • 1080p/23.976 (transmitted as 1080PsF)
    • 1080p/24 (transmitted as 1080PsF)
    • 1080p/25 (marginal - PsF)

One thing you should not overlook though is that HDMI does not support PsF.

    Yes

That's what this entire discussion is about -- converting the DX hardware's HDSDI PsF output -- to true progressive output over HDMI.

That's what AJA says the Hi5-3G box does.

    >>Michael,

I was just re-reading this thread for clarification.

Were you saying in your post (on the first page) that your AJA Hi5-3G converter will not allow your DX's psF output to be displayed on you Sammy monitor?

You mention the necessity of cross-converting to non-psF formats -- but I'm wondering why you had to do this -- as AJA told me their box would automatically convert psF to p for the formats you discussed in that post?

    Thanks

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

I'm guessing that anyone who has reached this point in the thread -- has probably lost interest in this subject.

But, just to close the loop, I believe the disconnect here is that the original HI-5 is not capable of converting pSF to p -- while the new Hi-5 3G will convert any pSF to p.
