Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

I am having problems getting my Kuro Elite 60" plasma to see a 1080p (23.98p, 24p or 30p) signal from the HDMI out of the Nitris DX. All signals from those project types show up as 1080i in the Kuro. I can pull the same HDMI cable from the back of the DX and connect to my Apple TV or Blu Ray player and they will both display a 1080p signal on the plasma. So I figure it's not the cable or plasma. Can anyone else confirm this or is there a setting I missed somewhere?

The HDSDI outs to my Panasonic BT-LH2600 are working fine, it just seems to be the HDMI output.

I have yet to find a plasma that supports 24 psf over HDMI. The consumer 24P is not psf.

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

    Thanks for the replies,

I've done a little more research and it seems Terence is right about the psf signal that Avid outputs.

    The Nitris DX readme states:

The following HD formats are supported for Avid Nitris DX:
    • 1080i/59.94
    • 1080p/29.97 (transmitted as 1080PsF/29.97)
    • 1080i/50
This format is marginal on some monitors with a lower limit of 50-Hz for vertical
refresh rate. Consult your VGA monitor specification for compliance with 50-Hz
    vertical refresh.
    • 1080p/23.976 (transmitted as 1080PsF)
    • 1080p/24 (transmitted as 1080PsF)
    • 1080p/25 (marginal - PsF)
    • 720p 50
    • 720p/59.94

The Kuro Elite Pro-150FD accepts 1080/24p, 1080/60p, 720/60p, 1080/60i via HDMI. unfortunately, no psf signals. Too bad as this monitor was not cheap.

I wonder if this is something that could be updated on Avid's end in the future?

Buy the cheap decklink SDI to HDMI converter. http://blackmagic-design.com/products/miniconverters/

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

So the SDI outputs on a Nitris generate 1080p 25 etc., and only the HDMI generates Psf? I can't find a thing about this limitation on the Avid website and were planning to buy a Nitris DX in a short while, and would like to combine it with a consumer LCD monitor...

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

HDMI is a consumer connecter type. You'd think you would be able to connect a consumer grade monitor to the DX and have it support the 23p, 24p and 30p framerates. Unfortunately, no.

It's certainly not consumer friendly. Maybe well stick to the software only version if all the connections on the Nitris have hidden limitations.

Thanks for the respose. So a decklink SDI to HDMI converter would translate that into progressive?

    Only a maybe.

Here SD out via SDI to Decklink box produces a tiny (single field, pixel for pixel sized) image on a HD screen via its HDMI port.

So it just cut's away one of the segments of the progressive segmented frame. This Psf thing is confusing...

Re: Nitris DX HDMI and 1080p output

I have the AJA HD-SDI to HDMI converter box running to a Samsung 46" LCD.

When editing in a 23.97 project, the Sammy doesn't like the 23.98p output.  But I can get an image on the Samsung when editing in a 23.98 project by setting the video out to Crossconvert to 1080i 59.97.  It looks great.

The problem is when I am cutting in a true 24p project.  The Sammy doesn't like the 24p output, but there is no crossconvert available when in a 24p project.

I don't think the HDMI spec recognizes the Psf signal format.

That is exactly what is happening. It isn't part of the HDMI consumer spec.
