    REDCine Fast Import DNxHD

I'm an Avid editor in a largely FCP house.  We own a couple of RED One cameras and have been able to establish a pretty good workflow for our RED footage on the FCP side, but have an upcoming project that we need to cut on Avid, so I've been researching and tinkering a little, but haven't been able to come up with a workflow that meets our needs.

Specific issue right now is - REDCine will let me export a DNxHD quicktime, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it create a file that will then fast import into the Avid.  Whenever I export a DNxHD quicktime out of REDCine, when I try to import into Avid, it is always a slow import - transcoding to make the file work.

Anyone had any luck with getting REDCine to create a quicktime that will fast import into Avid?

    Thanks-

    D

I am tinkering too with the same issue and for the moment, I have a similar issue. It seems that only Bob at Avid knows how. I suggest you watch the video attached to the link below.

I have the same issue and resorted to exporting TIF16 and importing with DNxHD 10 bit. Slow but workable. I can import with Avid while Redcine is working in the background and still won't hit 100% processor usage. Havn't tried the new Red Rushes feature (on the Mac side) - that is next....

Thanks for the quick reply - have watched this video and done exactly as it instructs, but still can't seem to get a fast import compliant quicktime out of REDCine.

http://www.studiodaily.com/main/video/9292.html is the link (I think you cut an "l"off.)

    Anyone?

check your color space settings (RGB/709)...I had issues with fast import of quicktimes until I tried the other color space...

    Tim-

So, you have been able to do a fast import of REDCine generated QT's successfully? I have tried both settings - RGB and 709.  I'd be eternally grateful if you could tell me exacty what settings you used to make it happen.

    Thanks-

    Re: REDCine Fast Import DNxHD

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. I have done this with standard DNxHD...I could not get them to import successfully, but I was able to get it to work by changing the color settings. I have not done this with Red files.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Re: REDCine Fast Import DNxHD

I succeeded in fast importing 25fps DNxHD from Redcine into MC 2.8 some time ago. From memory I think the fast import only worked when I was in a 1080 50i project rather than 25p, and make sure 709 colour space is selected. You will find much more help here
