Make sure that the Track Monitor button is active (selected); it's the small button to the right of the Track button on the Record Side of the Track Selector Panel.

Re: Video in composer window does not play.

Is this the case with the entire track/sequence (or a series of tracks), or is it just a particular clip?  For instance, if this problem is only at the beginning, does that part of the track (clip) have an effect applied to it?  If there is an effect applied to it, does the effect have a blue dot on it?  The problem could be caused by unrendered effects (with a blue dot).  If it's a matter of effects, you should take a look at Understanding Real-Time Effects Processing from your AXP Help Menu.  Also, what is the format of the sequence (video)?  I don't know if this is a matter of playing back through an IEEE-1394 card or a Mojo.  Depending on the format of your video, you may want to try to switch from DNA to IEEE-1394 (alternatively).

Lastly, you should post your system info under your profile: Click your member name (at top of page, to the right) and continue from there.

In addition: Create another project (completely distinct from the current project), cut together a short sequence, and see what happens there with playback.

This may be obvious, but make sure another application (such as a software DVD player or Windows Media Player) is not using the overlay. Went through hoops with a friend on the phone the other day covering all the bases until I said - you don't have anything else running do you?" and he said "well the DVD player..." Aha.Smile [:)]

I have the exact same problem. Nothing to do with video effects not rendered. A simple clip won't play live regardless of its resolution.

    Any advice?

    I found the problem.

You must have the right Nvidia drivers installed. ou will find them there:

NVIDIA® Driver 67.22. The NVIDIA driver is located in Program

    Files\Avid\Utilities\nVidia.

The best thing--always--is to read the entire ReadMe file of your AXP (or upgrades and updates thereof).  Avid will set you up properly.  Also, I don't think anyone can stress enough as to how important it is to meet Avid's system requirements; most technical problems can be solved before one purchases a platform: By taking a look at qualified systems.

Good to know that you located the cause of your problem.

    Nice first post.

PS, I think RST did a fine job and the info that lebrett found to solve the issue IS in the ReadME that RST referred to.

You know, here in the States, it's April Fool's Day, so I'm going to assume that this is a joke.  Big Smile [:D]

You're welcome.  Though, I completely forgot about it being AFD... so perhaps was a joke, (but not a very good one)
