    QuickTime 7.1.x w/Liquid - bad; QT 7.2 w/Liquid 7.2 - OK

    Locked Contact
QuickTime 7.1.3 has been causing severe problems for numerous Liquid users.  Avoid installing it.  If you're using this version, it seems clear that you will have trouble.  How soon the trouble turns up may depend on how you're using Liquid.   If you're using QT for import or export, it's fairly certain you'll have trouble.  It's highly recommended that even if you aren't aware of any problems, uninstall Quicktime 7.1.3 and then reinstall a version that is compatible with Liquid.  There are a couple of ways to do this.

    (1) You can reinstall the version on the Liquid disc.  Insert the disc while holding down the shift key (to prevent autostart).  When the drive has finished detecting the disc, release the shift key and open My Computer.  Right-click on your DVD drive and select Open or Explore.  Navigate to Setup\SmartSoundSetup and run quicktimefullinstaller.exe.  Follow the prompts from that point.

    (2) You can download an earlier version from QuickTime's archive

QT 7.0.4  - link at bottom of page for Windows version

Earlier versions can be found by navigating through the pages in the archive.

Turning off the autoupdate feature in QT is advisable to prevent having an update installed without realizing it.

QuickTime 7.1.5 isn't any better.  Attempting to export QT did not bring up the QT compression dialog and I was returned back to the timeline without any export.

I have learned that the direct links no longer work and I wasn't able just now to find those two earlier versions on the QuickTime site.  The "archive" link in the post works but apparently those versions aren't there anymore.  You might have more luck finding them now than I just did, though.

An alternative site (which I don't endorse as it isn't the official QuickTime site) has older versions of the QuickTime software.

QuickTime 7.1 is also reported to work with Juicer 3.

QT 7.1.6 also does not work correctly with Liquid.

I have just tested QT 7.2 with Liquid 7.2.  Import and export are working.  The only thing that showed up so far was when I first attempted to export, the dialogs didn't appear and there was no export.  After that, all exports have worked.

Anyone who has needed later versions of QT is encouraged to install QT 7.2 and see how it works with Liquid for import and export.  There's an open thread which I started where you can report your results.
