DVDit6 Pro plus eDVD SE - is it worth it ? $199 for two more days ! Is it worth it ?

    looks like  http://www.sonic.com/products/Professional/dvdit/dvditPro/new.aspx

    Looks like nice features.

Is it worth $200  over what we have in Liquid 6  (even with it's limitations ?)  I have been quite happy with Liquid - but I know no other DVD authoring program.

    Dave,

Sonic is consolidating it's software. I have Reel DVD. They are doing away with it and adding more features to DVDit.

Based on our previous conversation via email, you would gain a great deal more in functionality. I also still have the previous product mentioned in the previously mentioned email.

You know I know I had thought about it when the offer came out - and then as with other things - I kinda forgot about it - so THANKS for reminding me - I will check back on that email - but I think you didn't quite sell me on it - so I just laid off it for a while.  Now that it is down to the last two days - I thought I would get a bit more guidance from anyone who may have made the plunge.

But I do remember your offer - and it was a better deal - do we still have just two days to do it in ?

Also - our email was about Qualifying for the upgrade price - and I called the sales department and they said that since I had Roxio Easy Creator 5 - any Roxio product - he said I qualified.  Is he wrong ?

I like LE's - but it's the only one I know.  What do you mean by "is it too serious ?"

The only important thing missing in Liquid DVD authoring (imo) is playlists...

Playlists in Liquid would make many people happy...including myself. Smile [:)]

I don't really know what play lists are - but assume they let you have more control on what happens with menus - so you can have a play all and also returns at the end of each chapters.

Besides playlists, I also saw these things listed that sounded interesting -  Professional 2-layer PSD Menus, Advanced Chapter Editing, Bi-lingual Audio Support (SAP), Multiple Audio Tracks (8), Multiple Subtitle Tracks (32), Subtitle Offset Controls, Set Stream after End Action or Link, Professional Dolby Digital 5.1 Encoding2, Macrovision Encryption3, CSS Encryption3, DLT Creation

Playlists let you create a list of chapters to play. So you could have a button on the DVD menu play chapters 1, 3, and 5 while a different button would play 2, 4,  and 6. Playlists give you a lot of control over how the end-user views your DVD.

Note that you cannot actually encrypt using Macrovision. What you do (after buying the appropriate license from Macrovision first) is set a bit in the DVD master and either write that to a DLT or burn it using an authoring burner (which is not the same as the DVD burner you already use). That master gets sent to a authoring house which will encrypt the video and create a glass master. The glass master is used to press the actual DVDs.

As for the rest, you can find the same in DVDLab Pro, which I think is a better authoring application. What you do get from this bundle that isn't in DVDLab is Sonic eDVD. This is the authoring tool for the Interactual DVD player and lets you create hybrid DVDs. That means when you play the DVD on a computer you can have hyperlinks to URLs, display PDF files, run executables, etc. from the DVD menu system. If that's the sort of thing you or your customers want, then this is a good package to get.

    IMHO of course.

Besides DVDit6 Pro, are there any other DVD authoring programs that will allow PDF's or Word documents to be placed on the menu screen?  Thanks

I am looking at the link and trying to figure out why it might be better than DVD-Labs Studio and/or Pro (MediaChance).  That $199 must have expired today too (it shows as $399).

Edit - It does appear to include an encoder.  For $40, you can add that using Pegasys'.  And eDVD is cool.
