    Avid Link 2020.6

I successfully installed Media Composer 2020.6 over 2020.5.

In my Avid Link / Products Avid Link 2020.4 says “2020.4 installed”, “Update” is highlighted. When I try to update, a message appears “Download Error, Update URL is wrong”.

During installation of Media Composer 2020.6, the installation process stopped, indicating “Validate Avid Link”. A clicked “Retry” – the same happened. Then I clicked “Ignore”.

    How can I fix that?

Roland.... where you downloading and installing from within Link or MyAvid or Download Center?

I have heard a few with this and downloading from MyAvid seems to resolve the Link issue.

I downloaded from Avid Link 2020.4.

In MyAvid Download Center I found Avid Link 2020.6, which now I have downloaded separately.
Is it safe to 1. uninstall Avid Link 2020.4
    2. and then install Avid Link 2020.6?

Without having changed anything, today my Avid Link still says “2020.4 installed”, however the former message “Update” (red) has changed to “up-to-date” (green).

It seems Avid Link 2020.4 is compatible with Media Composer 2020.6.

    Re: Avid Link 2020.6

    Problem solved!

I uninstalled Avid Link 2020.4, Avid Media Composer 2020.6 und Avid Cloud Client Server 2.4.1.

I downloaded Media_Composer_20.6.0_win.zip from my Avid Master Account, de-zipped to C:\ (Root), the folder C:\Media_Composer_20.6.0_win was formed with the sub-folder MediaComposer and the file Install Media Composer.exe.

With the exe file I installed Media Composer 2020.6. The old Avid Link 2020.4 was automatically co-installed, but could be updated to Avid Link 2020.6 via Avid Link.

    Roland Achini:

I downloaded from Avid Link 2020.4.

    Roland,

I would stick with the download center for getting updates.  I think it's the most reliable way.  You may want to look at the hidden folders Avid Link uses for (1) downloaded files and (2) extracted files and clear them out.

    Thank you Scott.

I cannot (or do not know how to) find the mentioned files (1) and (2). Can I instead uninstall present Avid Link 2020.6 (downloaded from Avid Link 2020.4) and install Avid Link 2020.6 downloaded from the download center?

    Re: Avid Link 2020.6

    Roland,

I don't think uninstalling/reinstalling will affect the contents of those folders.

To turn on viewing hidden folders, open a drive directory (any one will do).  Click View at the top.  Go to the right end of that toolbar and click Options.  In the Folder Options window that appears, click the View tab.  In the Advanced Settings that appear, click the button for Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives.  Now, hidden files and folders will appear in your directories with the icon dimmed (more transparent).

On your C: drive, you should see a folder called AvidDownloads.  That's the folder that contains the 2 folders I mentioned.  You can go into those 2 folders and delete their contents.  I've found in the past that doing that can fix some issues with updating via Link.

If you want to turn off viewing hidden files to prevent altering any other hidden items by mistake, you can go back to those Advanced Settings and click the button for Don't Show Hidden Files, Folders or Drives.

    Scott
