    Nexis system director crash

    Hi All,

I will refrain from ranting and stick to the facts.

Upgraded a Nexis pro and 2x E4 + SDA on friday morning (00:00 at night) to BMC 0037 and 2019.12.1 with the help of L2 suport. The upgrades went smooth without a single issue. However... 3 hours after the update the system director on the Nexis pro crashed and restarted by itself after a minute or 2. 6 hours after the update the system director on the SDA crashed and did not restart by itself and no failover to the backup controller automatically took place. After manually restarting the surviving controller it took up the role of system director and found the other controller in the SDA as missing, That controller came back after 15 minutes or so. Case with Avid support is still open.

Over the weekend discovered that crashes happen when incorrect credentials are being used during login on a Nexis client.

My personal advice: Stay away from upgrading to 2019.12.1/BMC 0037 for now until the cause has been found.

Wow, thanks for the heads up!

I hope that is not the cause of it.

    It is probably LDAP related.

And indeed a bug has been identified. If you use LDAP authentication do not update your core to 2019.12.

If you already have, the temporary solution is to remove the second domain controller from the configuration and just leave 1.

Not only was the issue confirmed, in the latest release 2020.3 it is indicated as fixed.

    Fingers crossed.
