    Why limited interface highlight colours in 2019?

    Hi

    I know it is not a big thing but why is 2019.6 limited to 2 highlight colours when previously there were about 7? (This is in the interface setting)

    I was partial to the default blue but am now limited to either a brightish white or a purple. Why the change in the number of colours for this setting?

    If from now on there is to be only ONE non-white highlight color, it would be very cool if the entire user base could vote on which color it will be. I dislike these two highlight choices and I can’t help wondering what others think.

    Re: Why limited interface highlight colours in 2019?

    This is the second MAJOR dumbing down of choices/options for interface personalization. The previous "simplification" took place some six years ago with the intro of MC 7. Ostensibly the removal of many customization options was due to the overhead they required when the platform moved to full 64 bit (Avid's response when I inquired about this 6 years ago)...nonsense then and now. Overhead?

    However, I'd be happily placated (along with thousands of other users) if Avid decided to restore AT LEAST the customization available in 2018.12.x etc - though why not include what was possible prior to MC 7?!?

    Re: Why limited interface highlight colours in 2019?

    There are a lot more settings that can be done in the ReleasedFeatures.ftf file (and since this is already posted elsewhere, let's add to the mayhem). The following setting will change the behavior of the 2019.6 skin back to the previous behavior.

    First, see this post here: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/196214/884144.aspx#884144

    The location for the Mac file is a few posts later.

    To change the UI behavior, use the follow:

    {
      "Media Composer": {
        "ShowAllSkins": true
      }
    }

    Note that if you want to disable background save and change the interface, the file would look as follows:

    {
      "Media Composer": {
        "BackgroundBinSave": false,
        "UnifiedBinSave": false,
        "ShowAllSkins": true
      }
    }

    Just remember that unless Avid told you to do something (and I'm not Avid), altering the ReleasedFeatures.ftf files in done at your own risk.

    Re: Why limited interface highlight colours in 2019?

    (Not Dave here, but I'll answer.) It it seems to make the previous interface color options available.

    Only downside I can find is that it leaves the bin view option icons blank -- the buttons still work, but you can't see the icons.  (Speculation:  maybe that's why Avid didn't make it easily available with this release.)

    It's also (apparently) completely reversible, so no harm in trying.

    This enables the interface to use the pre-2019.6 color scheme. In other words, it goes from this:

    Thanks! Interesting that Avid chose to limit this...

    Why is it taking so long to put this normal Media Composer release? It can't be that hard to add this in a next version. Not everyone is keen on making changes themself at own risk!

    While I might not say "completely useless" I would say "a lot less than useful".  Big Smile

    The little things like this are what are keeping me on the deadend path of 2018.12.x.  I do not think I am being an old fart on this.  I just really like a UI that has as much visual help in complicated projects as possible.  The limited palette shown above does not do that.

    Re: Why limited interface highlight colours in 2019?

    + lots

    Same with lack of several shades of dark interface - now back to boring mid grey - or light grey!

    BTW hate the fact that the subtey different grey background obliterates my mac desktop since 2018, and also makes it difficult to distinguish between various windows. I try to slide it out of the way but it never remembers its position in the workspace settings. Argggh. Apart from numerous other niggly import / link bugs (stereo tracks as default!) mp4s linking to only left channel. Oh and the titler plus(!)....... I know it's a different forum.

    MC 8.9.1 was very pretty and easy on the eyes. I still have it on the other partition. Except I admit the new version is generally faster. Maybe Avid will eventually listen and bring back some of the lost features thrown out with the bathwater that made it more pleasant to work with.
