    Assertion failed:m Primary Buffer

    Hi,

I am trying to install MC 7.0.6.4 onto my laptop. OSX Yosemite 10.10.5

Specs; MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2014), 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16 Gb 1600 Mhz DDR3 ram, Nvidia Geforce GT 750M 2048 MB graphics card.

    I am getting the error message; FATAL_ERROR, msg:Assertion failed: m_pPrimaryBufferPtr, file:/snapshots/relengmtnlion3_1488427335/coresw/core/Projects/Mac/../../src/player/ALocateBufferMgr.c, line:456

When I try to open MC it displays that message and then closes.

I have Premier CS5 Master collection, AJA IO XT, Wirecast v 7.7, Episode V 6.5, Office 2011 installed as well. I have not installed the AJA IO XT avid drivers and I am not planning on using it with AVID.

I need to open a legacy project but I can not even open MC and it is very frustrating. After searching the forum I have found many discussions on this topic without any solution displayed.

Just to check I uninstalled  MC 7.0.6.4 and downloaded and installed MC 7.0.7 and it displayed the same error message. So I uninstalled 7.0.7 and reinstalled 7.0.6.4 and it still displays the messages.

Any ideas why this is happening and what can be done? I do not have a v8 license only a v7

    Thank you in advance

    @keefy: you need more RAM.

Unfortunately, you have a Retina MacBook Pro. Can't upgrade the RAM. Sorry.

    Thank you,

However, I fear your information is incorrect or is Avid lying about the Avid Qualified Systems list?

Don't know what version this info was attached to, but the error means what it means: MC ran out of RAM.

If you could install version 8, you probably wouldn't see this. (Again, sorry.)

    Re: Assertion failed:m Primary Buffer

    Thanks Isaac,

If that is what is happening then there is not a lot I can do about it. The specs of my machine should be able to run MC version 7.0.7 on 10.10.5 as stated in the install documents / avid qualified systems list. So this is a software fault and I would like to ask, is Avid going to do anything about it?

    Re: Assertion failed:m Primary Buffer

Hello, would like to resurrect this thread, have a nearly identical error: Assertion failed: m_pPrimaryBufferPtr File: /Snapshots/relengmtnlion3_1494212841/coresw/core/ProjectsMac/.../.../sic/player/ALocateBufferMgr.c. Line: 456

This can't be an issue with insufficient RAM in my case, a) 64 GB system memory, and b) I ran this legacy version MC w/ Symphony option on Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite on this machine back in 2012 without an issue, three HD 3D tracks (so 6) without hanging up.

    I appreciate any ideas!

You can start with this FAQ. Also, check the disc permission is set to read and write permissions.
