    QuickTime files

Many of my large QuickTime .mov files do not play anymore.  What is the future of these files?  How should we be outputting to avoid such problems?

    Re: QuickTime files

    Why don't they play anymore?

We have lots of ways to play WT files. Is it an old or odd codec?

QT was never a good long term choice as an archive format as its a propritry format created and owned by Apple.

And Apple have now effectively killed it off.

There are open source wrappers and no proprietry codecs but even then trying to guess what the future holds is an art.

    Pat,

Yes, this is what I'm hearing.  But how do I deal with it since I have so many files I thought were archival QT at 10bit uncompressed?  What do you recommend?  (Actually, the computer on which I edited them does play those files fine--usually--but obviously that's not good enough.  Some of these are to go to museum collections and the like.

    Many thanks
