Best Monitors for Avid 2-Monitor Editing

    Hey Folks!

I'm looking for a couple of new monitors for my Avid Editing setup.  I'm retiring two 8 year old 24" Dell monitors.  They were awesome but they are getting cloudy on the sides. I cut in a two Monitor Setup, kind of like FCP.  (I don't like working with a 3rd Flat Screen TV).  I'm thinking of going to 27" or 30" with Matte screens. (shiny is no good for me). And of course, I like reasonably priced.  ;) Anyone have some favourites they could share??? Any advise would be much appreciated!!! Here are my specs: MacPro (early 2009) Processor 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Memory 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB Software OS X 10.9.5 (13F1507) MC 7.0.4.3 Thanks, Trevor Ambrose

    Hey Trevor,

Start with these reviews at thewirecutter.com:

    http://thewirecutter.com/leaderboard/computer-accessories/#monitors

They get to the nitty gritty, but somehow still write for humans. I think you'll find one for your pricepoint here.

Related: if you're interested, I may be selling my video card soon. Looks like you might need one. ;) PM me for details.

I recently went with the Dell U2515H.  Matte screen, 2560x1440 screen size, multiple inputs, built in powered usb 3 hub, slim bezel.  Works well with avid.  Bestbuy has them for about $320 or better if you catch them on sale.

    Hey Isaac,

Really great link!  Thanks so much!  I'm not really looking for a video card right now.  -- I'm assuming you mean a card so I can go to a 3rd TV monitor?  But that being said, I'll think about it.  How much were you thinking?

Again, thanks a lot!  That link explains things well.

Re: Best Monitors for Avid 2-Monitor Editing

    @Trevor,

Yeah, I've made quite a few decisions based on that site. At the very least, it's a start.

    Trevor Ambrose:

Ah! No no, not that. It's a replacement for the video card inside your Mac Pro powering your current monitors.

    This is yours:

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB

    Here's mine:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB (Mac Edition) (https://www.evga.com/products/pdf/02G-P4-3682.pdf)

4x's the amount of Video RAM you currently have. If you've noticed certain third-party effects struggle to playback in MC, that may be why. Also better for After Effects or DaVinci Resolve use.

It's been a good card, just time to upgrade.

If you're still interested, let's talk pricing off board - iterronez@hotmail.com. I can box it up in the original packaging and everything! Thanks!
