Best Avid configuration for my machine

    Hi all,

I'm hoping to get Avid 8.6.5 running smoothly on a Late 2013 Mac Pro (specs will be listed below). Avid has always been sluggish on this Mac and I'm hoping to get some system setup advice on how to get it running smooth. Currently the late 2013 8gb 21" iMacs outperform the Mac Pro.

    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    Processor 2.7GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5
    Memory 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
    Startup Disk Macintosh SSD
Graphics AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
    OS X El Capitan 10.11.4

The main use will be cutting/transcoding using a 5K ISIS with the majority of the files being DNxHD 36. I've just uninstalled Avid MC and reinstalling

MAC OS X 10.11.4 Mac Pro (Late 2013) 2.7GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC Macintosh SSD AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB [view my complete system specs]

Hi ya James.... I can only advise on getting the most from the system while plugged in.

Disable energy saver (computer sleep set to never or prevent computer from sleeping automatically)

Un-check box for “put hard drives to sleep when possible”

Uncheck box for “enable power nap while plugged in”

    Disable screen saver

    Turn off wi-fi

    Uncheck box for automatic updates

    Disable automatic graphics switching

see if that makes a diff

Is there a reason you're not on macOS 10.11.6? That was the final release of El Capitan. We've been running it for some time and haven't had any issues.
