Record Monitor not updating while trimming in MC 8.5 or 8.5.1

I'm having problems with my record monitor not updating while trimming in jkl mode or frame by frame. This is happening with a (realtime) mask effect on the top layer for a 1:2.35 mask. MC 8.4 works fine...

Target masks isn't an option, because of my blackmagic output (only shows on Avid hardware).

    Anyone experiencing the same?

    Thanks,

    Jasper

Do you have Composer > Render on the Fly and Settings > Trim > Features > Render on the Fly both checked?

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, both checked, but no luck.

Can you try to reproduce my problem?

There have been reports of intermittent montior updating issues with trimming. For me, it appears more frequently when I am slipping and sliding tracks.

At this moment, my system is not replicating your issue.

Do you see a difference when you monitor the mask and when you don't?

Yes, when i disable the top layer with the mask the viewers are updating fine.

I tried it on several projects, user settings and even systems. But they all have the same problem with MC 8.5

Another weird this is when I jkl-trim on the left side it displays my sequence instead of the rest of the clip (with mask monitoring).

I tried slipping and sliding, but that's not updating either as you mentioned Sad

For fun, can you try restarting the computer? As I've said, it seems to come and go, and right now I can't replicate it, but I know tomorrow might be another thing.

Just curious if a full reboot makes it disappear for a while.

With me it doesn't come and go. The problem always exsits on both vesions of the software and on both systems. Weird that you can't replicate it. Maybe it's because I'm still on OSX 10.10.5?

I also get the error when in slip mode with trimming if I have a mask (2.35) on the top layer across the cut. Monitor doesn't update in real time at all. Can't see the edit, just get the first incoming frame of the next shot displayed.

If I change the monitor to the layer beneath the mask then trim mode works correctly.

    I also use 10.10.5, AVID MC 8.5.1

Thanks Simon for letting me know I'm not the only one.

Can anyone else reproduce this so we can escalate it to Marianna/AVID?

In the meantime I will try to update to Mavericks, maybe that helps since Kevin doesn't have this problem.

Re: Record Monitor not updating while trimming in MC 8.5 or 8.5.1

I can confirm this as well. My monitors take a few seconds to update in Trim Mode and JKL trimming becomes practically useless since I can't see the I/O frames.

The problem is consistent on m system whether I'm using my UltraStudio Express or not or have a target mask on or off.

Marianna, PLEASE look into this. It's a workflow killer for many of us. Thank you!

Re: Record Monitor not updating while trimming in MC 8.5 or 8.5.1

Well, I figured out the problem on my system: the monitor update delay was being caused by a lower third graphic on V2. If I monitor only the track with straight video, JKL trimming behaves normally. The guess MC couldn't update screen properly in Slip/Slide mode with the alpha channel graphic.

    Live and learn.

That's not normal behavior, is it? Until 8.4 this wasn't a problem, it's a real time effect.

I don't remember it being a problem before, no. I was beginning to question my memory. I can't roll back to compare now that I've upgraded to El Capitan.
