    MC 8.5 Segmentation Fault 0x0

    Help!!!

I had 4 edit stations successfully running , media composer 6.0.5.1 on imac OS 10.8.5.

For Other software reasons, I had to upgrade OS to 10.10.5

I have 3 that have all of a sudden stopped and refused to load AVID and are returning the following message:

    Alert

"Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address 0x0

I have come to learn that this is becuase my 6.0.5.1 MC is not compatable with new OS.

SO, I upgraded MC to 8.5

Now, I am in the exact same situation.  MC crashes on load and gives same error message.

I am dead in the water and need to solve.

    Please Help.

At what point in the boot up do you see the error?

Watch the bottom of the splash screen to see what part is initializing when it happens.

I would contact Avid support to help you through this sort of an issue.

Re: MC 8.5 Segmentation Fault 0x0

I am having the fault appear randomly during the editing process. Not doing anything special, simple editing. I'm working from a clean install with new user settings and the fault seems to appear at random times: syncing clips or placing clips on the timeline from the source monitor. The faults do not reproduce themselves after relaunching media composer, but appear randomly later during editing.

As I am assisting, the main editor also has several crashes a day, Segmentation Fault, with Yosemite - MC 8.5 on iMac 5k.

I'm seeing the same thing on several systems. Just random crashes with the Segmentaion Fault error. Most are on 10.9.5. Mix of Mac Pro's and iMacs. All are on shared storage. ISIS or TerraBlock.

Have tried all the usuall troubleshooting steps: Deleteing settings, new user, multiple projects, etc. Will probaly try reverting to MC 8.4.x next week.

Oddly, several similar systems are working fine with neer zero crashes.

Copy and paste your crash log when you have a sec. Start from the stop and through the first five or six lines of the section labeled, Application Specific Backtrace.
