23.98 Offline to 59.94 Master file

    Hi there,

Our series was shot and edited 23.98 and we are delivering a 59.94 master.  We've calculated for the 29.97 broadcast timing in our timeline.  We are creating 59.95 QT Masters for the network.  My question is, must we create a 59.94 project and bring our bin with the 175X mixdown of our episode into the new 59.94 project; or, can we export the 59.94 directly from the 23.98 project.  Advantages?  Our final master settings are: DNxHD 145 8bit /709 / 1920 X 1080.  Running MC 7.0.4.1

    Much thanks, Wren

    In 23.98 project:

    duplicate master seqeunce

do a video mixdown and replace all video tracks with mixdown

    In 29.97i project:

    open bin from 23.98 project

open mixdown sequence and promote to 29.97

do a video mixdown to DNxHD 145 and replace video track with new mixdown

export Same as Source QT with 709 levels

Re: 23.98 Offline to 59.94 Master file

You can skip one mixdown by opening the 23.98 sequence in a 59.94i project and doing the conversion there.  One catch: the pulldown cadence will reset on each clip and any series of shots (i.e. more than one clip) on a upper track will need to be mixed down prior to opening in the interlaced project or you might end up with flash frames on outpoints as there is a 50/50 chance you'll be a field or frame short.

Must think of something clever to go here...

Re: 23.98 Offline to 59.94 Master file

Thanks...that all makes sense.  We had done a test earlier where we did everything save the final DNxHD 145 Mixdown.  We had exported the 175X mixdown from the 59.94 project as a DNxHD 145 QT.  Appreciate the help.

    Cheers, Wren

Re: 23.98 Offline to 59.94 Master file

This is exactly why I say to mixdown in the 23.98 project. Constant cadence is important, and if you follow the way I outlined, you will never have any of those issues. Not to mention you can not open any 23.98 sequence in a 29.97 project if it has any matte clips. So…don't skip that step…
