Avid MC6 & Blackmagic Desktop Video 9.0 crash

Im 16 days into the Avid MC 6 trial and everything has been more than fine but I download Desktop Video 9.0 for my Decklink Extreme from the Blackmagic website today and now I can't open my projects and Avid crashes when I try to open a bin.

I uninstalled the Desktop Video software and Avid runs fine again. Has anyone come across this problem and more importantly has anyway figured out a solution?

    Many thanks,

    Andy

Re: Avid MC6 & Blackmagic Desktop Video 9.02 crash

    Hello,

I am running BlackMagic desktop 9 to a BlackMagic Multibridge Eclipse with MC 6 on a new MacPro 2.66 12 core with 24 Gig of ram and OSX 10.7.2, and although it has only been in use for a few days, I have not encountered any significant issues with that combination.

It must be a problem with the Decklink Extreme 3D cards as I still can't make them work together.

Certainly possible.  I would contact BlackMagic and see what they have to say.

Re: Avid MC6 & Blackmagic Desktop Video 9.02 crash

No-one has any answers to my problems.

The project I was working on was created in Avid Media Composer 6. When I installed the Desktop Video 9.0 it crashes Avid.

I can created new projects but when I do I get this error message when I try to open a new bin or even open a sequence.

    Assertion failed: gProject != NULL

    File:

    /Snapshots/relengsnow5_1319677901/ppg/MCTop/ProjectFiles/../../Mediacomposer/Bin/binAttic/c,Line:118

I still get the error message I wrote in the previous thread when I open Avid.

Avid only works properly when I uninstall Desktop Video 9.0.

Adobe Premiere CS5.5 & Final Cut Pro 7 both work fine with Desktop Video 9.0 and Decklink Link Extreme

    Hi,

I have a decklink card and a matrox mini attached to the system. I figured out that I can´t install both to work with MC 6. I had the same error message. Then I uninstalled the decklink driver and my matrox mini started working again. So in my case the problem was the multiple hardware on the same system. Possibly Avid just accepts one video I/O card installed?!

I am afraid I don't have an answer to your problem,

but we're trying to work with decklink as well, and there are a lot of issues.

Our AVID doesn't crash that fast, but we found out that it makes it very unstable and slow and will crash eventually.

Certain things you can't use at all.

Trim mode and color correct crashes the AVID. (I just found out though when you dissable audio scrub, trimming tends to work). Also, the audio tool shows all 16 channels even though working in stereo and has strange levels going on.

Also, you have to render pretty much everything, even with a very fast raid system...

Just wanted to warn you that even if you can get it started, working with it is not going to be any fun.

The AVID really acts like FCP when we first installed 3rd party hardware to it... +10 years ago!

Anyway, waiting for an update, is all we can do now.

Re: Avid MC6 & Blackmagic Desktop Video 9.02 crash

I recieved some help from Blackmagic and it solved the problem.

    Here is what I received.....

The original message would occur if the Decklink hardware doesn’t support the video format that is selected. I’m not sure what formats wouldn’t work with the HD Extreme 3D however. Certainly if I try a 1080p25 project on an older card which doesn’t support the format this is precisely the message I get.

The second message I get if I try and continue with the same project settings. If I quit out of Media Composer and start with a format that is supported by the card I was trying creating new bins etc. seems to work OK.

I would try creating a new project in 1080i50 YCbCr709 and see if the same thing happens.

My project now opens and no crashes so far.

I'm getting some stuttery playback using AMA on some Canon 5D footage but not sure if that's because of the Blackmagic Card or h.264 codec.
