MC 5.5.1 crashes on upgrade from 5.0.3

I've tried to upgrade Avid MC 5 Academic to MC 5.5 Academic. After a successful install and having been able to activate the software with my new serial number via internet connection, the application crashes on launch. I get the following bus error message: "Segmentation fault" in thread "Main Thread", at address 0x0. Before installing MC 5.5, I uninstalled MC 5 as recommended. I tried the procedure twice but it failed both times. I now have reverted to version 5.0.3 which works seamlessly.

I have a 3 year old Mac Pro Quad core Intel Xeon, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX285 card, running Snow Leopard 10.6.6, FCP also installed with Matrox MXO2. Is there any know compatibility issue?

    Thank you

Will the software launch if you choose the free trial period?

You need to install the new Matrox 2.2.0028 software from the Matrox site, but otherwise nothing obvious stands out.

Must think of something clever to go here...

Okay. I need to update my version of the MXO2 but for some reason I'm running into trouble uninstalling the previous version. Once done, I'll try your suggestion of launching MC5.5 free trial version and see how it goes. Thank you for your help.

Re: MC 5.5.1 crashes on upgrade from 5.0.3

I have updated MXO2 to the latest version and tried to re-install MC5.5. It didn't let me opt for the free trial version as my system ID appeared automatically. MC5.5 crashed on launch same as before. I reinstalled version 5.0.3 which again works fine. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Had the same issue, also audio scrubbing not working properly...jumps frames without hearing them....

crashes after about 60 mouse clicks or key strokes.

    reverted back to 5.0.3

I finally resolved the issue, kind of. There is a conflict between Matrox MXO2 v. 2.2.1 and MC 5.5.1. Once I de-installed MXO 2 sw, I was able to open MC and run it without problems.

    Mireille:

     There is a conflict between Matrox MXO2 v. 2.2.1 and MC 5.5.1.

I am not seeing this when using my certified MBP as in profile below, MM driver 2,2,1 and MC 5,51 works well as expected.

Could you please give us some more info about your system, your profile seems to be empty

Re: MC 5.5.1 crashes on upgrade from 5.0.3

Here is the answer I received from Matrox:

As for AVID MC 5.5.1 issue, as you know the MXO2 Mini or Mini MAX is only supported with AVID software.
As a result, if you want to run AVID, you should either disconnect the MXO2 hardware or uninstall the MXO2 software drivers. We are aware of this issue with AVID MC5.5.1 and MXO2 2.2 drivers.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has placed in your workflow.

Before I ping a friend at Matrox about this, could you please clarify what drivers you are using, including the last three digits after the version number

Thanks a lot, I have just asked for clarification from Matrox about this as your Matrox support answer was refering to driver 2.2

Re: MC 5.5.1 crashes on upgrade from 5.0.3

    Any news from Matrox?

I have the same problem (many crashes) with the MXO2 turned on. I am on the AVID supported driver 2.2.0.00028 with MC 5.5.1 on OSX 10.6.6.

I just bought the upgrade to MC 5.5 because of 1080 24p support on the MXO2 mini, so hope there is a fix for this.

    Thanks,

Re: MC 5.5.1 crashes on upgrade from 5.0.3

I have, but the same problem remains.

It might have something to do with that we are editing some 24p PAL material in a 24p 1080 project, but my neighbor does the same thing with exactly the same setup (only a newer mac pro) without crashes.

I really need 24p and therefore MC 5.5.1, but I think I need to go back to my MOJO SDI now.

    Cheers,

    Jasper
