    Hi AL,

What version of MC5 & what version of OS X are your running.

Take a look at the version matrix to make sure you've got the right OS for your version of MC : http://avid.force.com/pkb/LegacySearch?DocId=267087

What kind of video are you trying to import?

Hello Ryan, thanks for your reply.

I had MC 5.0.0 and downloaded the editor patch which upgraded it to 5.0.3.5.

The OS X I am running is 10.6.6 which is the newest version and not included in the matrix, could that be the problem?

The video I am trying to import is a mov file I downloaded from the internet. Just tried importing an audio file (both wav and mp3) and it gave me the same errors. Both segmentation fault en bus error after which Avid just shuts down.

Don't know if this helps, here is a part of the crash report.

Re: Bus/Segmentation error main thread when importing video

    Hey AL,

Yes, 10.6.6 could absolutely be the issue. The latest certified OS is 10.6.5. And there's a footnote at the bottom of Version Matrix (which is very easily missed) that if you're running 10.6.5, you MUST run the v5.0.3.7r patch.

You should downgrade the OS to a supported version listed in the matrix.

But as a quick & dirty [possible] solution, you can try downloading and installing that patch (linked to in the matrix footnote). That will still leave you with an unsupported configuration, but it may resolve this error.

Let us know how it goes.

I will do that now, will let you know how it goes.

I tried opening a new user account on my mac and gave it all admin permissions. And to my surprise Avid worked perfectly there, I could import video and audio. What does that mean? Could there be something blocking the Avid in my main user account?

Again, thanks for your help Ryan :)

You need to run Avid with Administrator account privileges or certain files can't be accessed and it doesn't work correctly.

MacPro, MacBook Pro and a Cube (masquerading as a kleenex dispenser). [view my complete system specs]

Must think of something clever to go here...

Re: Bus/Segmentation error main thread when importing video

As hbrock said, if your main user account didn't have Admin priviledges, that could absolutely have been the issue.

If you main user does have Admin priviledges, this could be a sign of user corruption or permissions issues. This is especially likely if you migrated the user account from an older computer.
