    Avid 5.2.2/Pro Tools 6.5.3r2 question...

I am about to install Pro Tools 6.5.3r2 on my Studio system. I have both the 002r and the Mbox on this system. The latest setup is with the Mbox as I am using the firewire port for my external drive...don't want to have 002r and firewire drive on the same firewire bus. My (temporary) plan was to simply unhook the Mbox and the firewire drive and cold boot with the 002r plugged in as an option...for when I need to use the 002r.

    1. Do I need to uninstall the Mbox driver before booting up with the 002r hooked up via firewire?

    2. Do I need to reinstall Avid 5.2.2 (again) AFTER installing Pro Tools 6.5.3r2?

    3. Do I need to do an install of 6.5.3r2 depending on whether I am using the 002r or the Mbox? (I only use the Mbox when I have the external firewire drive hooked up.)

Any experience in this would be much appreciated. I was hoping I could keep both Mbox and 002r on the system and use Mbox with firewire drive (when needed) and 002r without. Eventually, I'll add another firewire card and probably go with the 002r exclusively...or put it on another suite.

Re: Avid 5.2.2/Pro Tools 6.5.3r2 question...

    Robert,

    1.  No.

    2.  No.

    3.  6.5.3r2 solves 002 problems, not Mbox problems.

Avid Pro Tools LE 6.5.3r2 is specifically for Digi 002 owners on Windows XP systems who want to take advantage of the superior performance of Avid Mojo for video playback. All other users should continue to use their current versions of Pro Tools.

By the way, I hang firewire drives off of my 002 all the time with no problems.  I'm not a heavy Pro Tools user, but use the 002 as a "device" every day.  And read and write data to that drive every day.

    Good luck,

Thx Cre8tive...I tried hanging the LaCie off the 002r just now and everything booted up just fine (and all the drive partitions are there). I'm wondering why this is not recommended? I'll be brave and see how it goes...thanks for the tip.

Now I'm wonderin' if I can plug in my DVCam to the same firewire bus to capture without blowing the connection to the 002r and/or firewire drive...Huh? [:^)]

Re: Avid 5.2.2/Pro Tools 6.5.3r2 question...

I plug my Panasonic AG-DV2500 DV deck into the 4-pin firewire input on the Mojo.  That's how I capture with DV on my desktop.

Just did this on the HP laptop (with Mojo) and captured an hour long DV tape with DV scene extraction unattended.  No hiccups.

Re: Avid 5.2.2/Pro Tools 6.5.3r2 question...

But is that on the same bus as the 002r and firewire drive? Anyway...I'll give it a shot next week sometime...not brave enough for two risky attempts in the same day... Wink [;)]

Nope.  The OTHER bus (on the desktop, of course).  On the laptop, the ONLY bus.  Mbox goes in USB 2.0 so all is happy there.  Going to experiment with externals on the laptop with the Mojo and Mbox.  Will report back how it goes.

Re: Avid 5.2.2/Pro Tools 6.5.3r2 question...

Mostly I'm a bit 'fraid of the risks involved in experimenting (against the vendor recommendations, etc.)...although I was told by LaCie tech that, for example, there would be no risk in getting a 800 to 400 adapter and hanging the 002r off the drive. For some reason, they don't want you hanging their drive off the 002r...and I don't want to void the warranty, etc...but you're right...it is working fine that way.

I can live with rebooting/disconnecting for capturing anyway...and capturing to internal SCSI drive, which I would do anyway...
