    Advice for MultiCam HD editing

    Hi

I am about to get a live show with 8 sources. All HD (I don't know yet the camera type)

I think it will be too hard for my MC to play live 8 HD sources.

    I thought of 2 options.

    1. Import all HD files to DNxHD (full import, not AMA), then transcode all clips to DV420 for the multi cam editing, and at the end relinking to the original media.

    2. Import all clips as DV420, edit, and then somehow batch import..

Option 2 looks faster to me, but will I be able to batch import my sequence back to HD?

    Thanks

One fault of Batch Import is that if you have a 20 min long clip and you import it at a low-res, with the intention to up-res later, and say you end up using 2 secs from that entire 20 min clip, when you do the Batch Import, it will re-import the entire 20 mins at the hi-res and not just what was used.

If it's XDCam optical material, you could potentially use the pre-AMA workflow and use Proxies.

    Thanks for the info.

I am in MC5.0.3. Do I need to disable AMA (and reboot) in order to load proxies ?

Just disable and Relaunch Avid, no need to reboot the entire system.
