    Matte problem

    Hi there!

Well, unfortunately I've got a problem with matte on DS.
    Long story short:

    Avid DS 10.3.1

    Input file:
Simple jpeg file. Blue text, white background.

    Capture settings:

    Nodes:

    Matte settings:
    MATTE ->
    Force Premultiplied: CHECK

    SHAPES ->
    Composite Method: Replace

Note: Filling options are set to 'visible only in Shape'. Everything beside is not visible.

    Results:

    Broadcast:
    Matte shape suddenly appears.
    Grey background instead of white

    HP:
    Working fine.

    ---
While capturing I tried to select different 'Input Levels' options. Everything was working fine on Linear but.. colours were totally different.
It happens on every type of file and capture method.
It looks like DS on Broadcast creates a white shape, ignores matte and for it's own reasons changes background to grey.
Note: I don't think it's problem with Broadcast, colour calibration or whatever.

    My Temporary (silly) Solution:
    1. Output to file.
    2. Capture.
    3. Profit!

I hope somebody can work it out.
After two days fighting I have no more ideas.

    Cheers,
    Raff

    Re: Matte problem

    I'll take a wild guess.

Look in your composite node.  Is the text layer set to Auto or Premult?

    Hi,

    thanks for reply.
It was set to Auto then I switched to Premultiplied and.. ta-daaa! Working!

    Cheers for help, Jef.

DS doesn't guess premultiplication settings (because guessing it can produce false positives). Auto just looks at a metadata flag indicating premultiplication ON or OFF. It doesn't mean it guesses how to interpret the footage.
