    help with importing mpeg 4

    hello

i am somewhat new to avid.

shooting a film in denmark for a sustainability film festival contest

i'm wondering what settings i should specify when i create a new project?  we shot on a canon hf s20 and converted the mts files into mpeg-4 aac files with "miro audio converter"

i can see from that we need 1920 x 1080 but how do i know what format (i randomly picked 1080p/24).

imported clips rather than linking them as couldn't figure that out.

so basically wondering what settings i need for the project -- maybe other settings somewhere else (bin settings or import settings) -- and also some help exporting.

    thanks in advance, you're awesome!

Re: help with importing mpeg 4

You are talking about frame rate (23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 59.94i) since you've settled on frame size (1920 x 1080) already. There are two things to consider. What frame rate are you supposed to deliver and what frame rate did you shoot at?

Usually, you set the project up for the frame rate you need to deliver. Let's say 23.98 just for fun. Then you import or link to your clips. If they are anything other than 23.98, when you cut them into a timeline, Avid will apply a motion effect to adjust them to 23.98.

    Does this answer the question?

Re: help with importing mpeg 4

    ok great thanks

the requirements for the film contest are:

    Video format 1: FLV - H.264

    Størrelse: Max width - 640 x 360 pixels

    sound: ACC

    Max file size: 67 Mb

OR Video format 2: AVI or Quicktime file

    Original film in full resolution

    Max file size: 2 Gb

so any recomendation for format, raster, resolution when creating new project?

    any then for exporting?

    thanks again!

Since it is just a small frame size with no frame rate requirements, create your project at whatever your source files are. In other words, if you shot 23.98 1920 x1080, make that the project, cut your sequence, then export to Sorenson and compress to the delivery specs above.

Re: help with importing mpeg 4

    ok cool, thanks

so having a lot of problems with the clips still (frames skip and looks pixallated).  they seem to do better if i import them rather than link to files, but still not that great even when imported directly to the bins.  and they look awful when i export to quicktime video (skipping frames).

have been shooting with recording mode FXP, which is 17Mps. fram rate 60i, and 1920x1080

the avid project type i specified was product type 1080p/24 with raster dimension 1920x1080 and YCbCr 709 and aspect ratio 16:9

should i be changing some settings or exporting with particular settings?

    thanks again

So, you shot 60i and are cutting 24p?

Try creating a 1080/5994 project and see what that does for you?

    hey last question,

    my project settings are: 1080p/24; 16:9; RGB 709; 1920x1080

so in the export settings, does this seem ok?:

    width height: 1280 x 720

    compression: H.264

    Key frame rate: 24
