MC5 problems with effects e.g picture in picture PLEASE HELP

    Hello

I hope someone can help me as im about to pull all my hair out.

We have recently upgraded to MC5 from MC3 and I am finding difficulty making my effects to do anything!!!

For Instance using Picture in Picture sometimes it won't let me place keyframes anywhere... and then when i manage to place them and i use scaling to make the front keyframe small, then go to the end keyframe to make it bigger and it changes the value but also doesn't keep the front value, so the picture stays static.

I am finding this out with most if not all of my effects including the BCC effects. Also with most of the effects when you open them they do not contain any keyframes and I am havng to place one at the front and at the end. But then havin to place another next to the front keyframe and another by the end keyframe to make them move....whats up with that !!!!

    Please Help

    Clarice,

I just did the exact effect you described, in the same manner as you described (exception was that I opened the graphs for the X and Y resize axis.
    It worked without a hitch.

The "No keyframes" on opening the effect can be turned on and off SOMEWHERE!
I cannot find this just at the moment.

But in my case when I open the effect I already have the start and end keyframes in place.

I am on MC 5.0.3.1 and AvidFX 5.8.2

I must go out for most of the day, but ater I get back I will try and track down where you can choose to add or not to add start/end keyframes in your effect.

Sorry I can't be more precise at the moment.

    Regards,

    Douglas and Clarice:

There are some effects that still open with the default start and end keyframes intact. Most of the effects in the image group and most of the simpler transitional effects, like push, display start and end frames when loading.

I am with you on that Larry.

But if you look at those Keyframes (e.g. in the PIP effect) you will see that they only apply to the upper 2 or 3 Parameter groups.

Look down to the group for resizing (can't remember the name just now) The one that shows the X and Y dimensions of the PIP.

    There are NO keyframes there.

They have to be set, and it is here that many people make mistakes.
They apply changes to "All Keyframes"

I am sorry but now it is high time I left.

    I'll join in again later.

Probably post a short Video Tutorial on how to do what Clarice wants......

Re: MC5 problems with effects e.g picture in picture PLEASE HELP

Thanks everyone for your help, ronn those links helped tremendously :) . I went into settings under effect editor clicked on 'show add keyframe mode menu' and then while in the actual effect placed the cursor on the spot i wanted to add a keyframe and then clicked on the keyframe button and a little menu popped up, i then selected add to all parameters and it seems to be working.

But i really hope that avid sorts this problem out, cos what use to take me a few min to create an effect , takes me half a day......very frustrating :(

Also Douglas/Larry maybe we should make a little tutorial on this aspect cos i'm sure lots of people will struggle with it.

But if there is a quicker or better way to do this please share it with us....thanks again :)

It should only take a minute to do the effect you are wanting.

Now that I am back at my computer I will throw together a short video tutorial to show you how.

In the meantime I will give you a link to an "unofficial" tutorial of mine that I made to help out Larry with a question on Keyframing in AvidFX.
The tutorial is not intended for genreal release, as I have not polished it off correctly.
It gives some details on the use of keyframes in AvidFX.
You really should watch it before you try and do even the simplest of keyframing.

Applying "to all parameters" everytime you add a keyframe  is the most basic mistake people make when trying to get into AvidFX.

Here is THE UNOFFICIAL VIDEO TUTORIAL

Now I will get down to making a second Unofficial Tutorial on doing the PIP effect you want.
I will post a link to it in this thread....... in about 1 hour from now!

    OOOps!

Some of you who were quick off the mark, or who are clicking on the link in any email notification you got recently will be taken to the WRONG Unofficial Tutorial!!!

I have updated the link in the post above now.
Try again, and you will get the Keyframe stuff.

    OOops!
one point I missed was to mention that the X and Y axis settings were at 50% to give the PiP effect when you drop the effect onto the timeline.

As well as dragging the Keyframes up or down to resize the PiP effect you can be more precise by entering a numerical value. A third way would be to drag the scale bar to the left or right and watch the % until you get to the one you want.
