    Z400 or Z800 for operating with HD-signal?

    Hello,

What would be the most suitable machinery for dealing with HD-signal. Is the HP Z800 (modelx5560 ) powerful enough? Or is the HP Z400 (model W3550) OK? What else should I consider, when planning to work with HD?

Most suitable would be the Z800 off course. But for a lot of HD work the Z400 will also be good enough. Asking if a machine is good enough for HD is nog enough as there are many flavours of HD with different requirements - HDV, XDCAM EX, H.264, Uncompressed HD, etc...

I own a z800 and use one at work.  I love it.  I edit HD.  Haven't used it with RED yet though...not sure which flavors of HD you'll be handling with.  The z800 inside is a thing of beauty.  Really easy to upgrade your system.  Google or Youtube search it and check out the demos people made.  Regardless get 12 gb of ram and put it in alternating Dimm slots.

    Hello digibeetle,

Thank you for your answer. What would be appropriate techinal reguirements for Z400? Is the W3550 1 x Xeon / 3.06 GHz, RAM 3 GT, 1 Gigabit ethernet, Win 7 , 64 bit, and Nvidia Quadro FX3800 powerful enough?

    Best Wishes

    JaMa

Re: Z400 or Z800 for operating with HD-signal?

    Hi,

My target is to work with MXF OP1a ( SMPTE 378M ) or Quicktime Wrapped XDCAM HD422 ( MPEG-2 Long GOP 50 Mbit/s). Any recommendations for the most suitable machinery?

    Wit many thanks,

    JaMa
