Hi,
I want to monitor HD-signal with separate monitor and I have been thinking about the Matrox MX02mini. Does anybody have experience about the sync when using MX02? Is the picture in sync with the computer monitors?
Thanks,
JaMA
Yes
Tomas
I can confirm what Tomas said. I have been using the MXO2 mini since MC5 came out, and it functions very well, and is in sync with what is shown on the record monitor on the MC screen.

Monitoring video through MX02 and audio from the computer speakers won't work if you are connecting your speakers to the computer sound card. You must monitor your audio also through the MX02 mini, while monitoring video. The button to switch between 1394 and MX02 is on the timeline and easily accessible though.

It will if you are connecting audio out from the MM to audio in on the computer
Thank you "jadakin". Best wishes, JaMa
Hi Denny,
Than you for your reply. I would like to know what kind of a monitor you are using with MX02mini?
JaMa
JaMa,
I have the MXO2 mini plugged into a Sharp 4:3 monitor, and I have MC Video Output under the settings area to show the video in 16:9. Works quite well for me.
Thanks Denny! Have you monitored SD-signal at all with your MX02 and Sharp? How does it look like? I am wondering can you monitor with MX02 both SD and HD signal equal-good-looking? Best wishes, JaMa
Yes, I have monitored SD, and it works equally well on my old Sharp TV set. Overall, I am very happy with the MXO2 mini. Of course the signal looks a bit better with 4:3 output because I am using the entire screen rather than a letterbox version.

Can you describe that for me please? While active, doesn't Avid 'own' the audio output and blocks access from other inputs (which your MM output would be hooked up to)? Does Avid let go of the sound card while the MM is active? Or do you have to throw the 'Windows mixer' inputs into the mix and bypass Avid completely?
It's probably very simple, but I'm having a hard time understanding how it works...

Most of these things is about how to setup a system, whilst onboard audio might have probs, my X-Fi Elite Pro card can do a lot of things at the same time, those of you that have watched some of my tutorials might have noticed that I you are able to hear me speaking whilst the sound from the Media Composer project are playing in the background, my system have no probs at all doing this, if onboard sound is all you have, just connect 2 speakers to the audio out.
mjolnarn:if onboard sound is all you have
I use a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24, which can also do a lot of things at the same time (too much for my sanity, if you ask me). However, it's not supproted by Avid, so I have to use it in MC through the windows mixer. I'll have to experiment with the different settings from Avid, the windows mixer, and the Focusrite driver. It can become messy quite easily.
I'd apreciate it if you had rough guidelines to share.
Thanx

If you're outputting MX02 from Avid you need to monitor Audio from MX02 box. Avid does not send audio to the sound card when the MX02 mode is on the system. Avid WILL send it to the sound card if 1394 mode is on. Which then disables your MX02 monitoring source. This is basically what I said before, but I too am interested as to how you accomplished this feat. My understanding is that you send the audio through the MX02 back into the sound card that registers through a pass-through option for your speakers to hear it? Also, why would anyone want to do that? Wouldn't the audio be out of sync with the MX02 video?
jadakin:Also, why would anyone want to do that?
Simple: One set of speakers that you can use for all your apps. Not just apps that work with the MXO2 Mini. Your speakers remain hooked up to your main audio card.
jadakin:Wouldn't the audio be out of sync with the MX02 video?
No it wouldn't. No more than when you record a live sound through your soundcard input. It does require however zero latency monitoring.
