Exception: Cannot quick import a mixed resolution QuickTime movie.

I've just done a clean install of Media Composer 5.

    So far I love it!

I just tried to import a quicktime animation file I made in After Effects, and it fails.

It says, "An unexpected error occurred while importing the Quicktime Audio Tracks.  The imported audio tracks may be unusable.  Would you like to continue the import?"

I enter "continue" and it fails.

It gives me this error in the console, "Exception: Cannot quick import a mixed resolution QuickTime movie."

Does anyone know why this is happening.  Its a quicktime video file with no audio. It plays fine in Quicktime 7.6.6.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Exception: Cannot quick import a mixed resolution QuickTime movie.

They are Quicktime Animation Files on the "Best" setting.

Lower Field First ast this is 1080i.

    Channels: RGB

I also tried a quicktime with the Avid DNxHD Codec.

    Color Levels: 709

    Alfa: Uncompressed

    Resolution 1080i/59.94 DNxHD 145 8-bit

It won't impoort any video files. Only audio files.

    Any ideas?

Believe it or not, check the free space on the drive you are importing to.  I have seen the "mixed resolution" message when the import drive was too full.

I didn't say Avid errors made sense!

    LOL!!!

Actually, the drive has plenty of space. I have @ 1TB left.

    Any other thoughts?

For After Effects is there video?  What video is it.  It's possible that if the codec that what used inside AE is different from the Codec used to make the movie could be the conflict.  Also, if you have QT Pro or Sorenson try encoding it to H.264 and AMA link then transcode?

Re: Exception: Cannot quick import a mixed resolution QuickTime movie.

The trouble with error messages is that they can often become triggered by events other than those they were originally designed to trap.  They are also often written primarily as debugging aids to the programmer(s) and can mean little to anyone else.

That said, Avid's error messages have been known to set new benchmarks for obscurity!

I dunno... Final Cut Pro's dreaded "General Error" is pretty bad.

No, that's just saying "there's a problem and I have no idea what it is."  That's pretty clear - not helpful, but clear.  At least it's honest.
