    Timeline Overview Area

I've always worked with the "Timeline Overview Area" closed in order to gain the real estate, but with the new HP monitor, I'm finding I don't need to as often.  What do you do?  Do you leave the overview area visible or do you close it?

I absolutely have it open, couldn't live without it. I went with 2X24inch monitors, real estate is no issue. I've moved my timeline over onto my left monitor and my Explorer view under the Source/Record. I got used to this layout years ago and haven't looked back since.

I keep my overview area visible as well. Running dual monitors also.

Oops, didn't notice right away it's the DS Forum. I thought the reference was to the background area around the timeline itself. My bad.

No worries. Thought you'd made the switchBig Smile

Dave is asking about a thumbnail view that sits above the main timeline in DS. It shows all clips and tracks in miniature and allows you to navigate the timeline (even while it's playing). Zooming, panning, Focus Zoom, clip names, adding tracks and locators, floating viewers, looping on active media, timeline properties and just for kicks, the output tool (digital cut) - are all accessible from this handy area.

I tend to colapse it even on the large monitor. Maybe I should change my ways.

    Re: Timeline Overview Area

One additional reason I'm thinking about leaving it open is that sometimes the area of the timeline that I'm viewing will fly away to another spot, when I touch near the top of the timeline.  Leaving the overview area open eliminates this problem.

    Re: Timeline Overview Area

I use mine all the time. I changed my layout to give the timeline more room for this and made the viewer smaller. I usually look to the external monitor anyway.

then when I need to look at the cpu monitor, F12 all the way. F12 is my friend.

Maybe we should also share layouts. You can export them, why not post them at the wiki. Mine are still pretty basic, but if they were categorized by type of monitor and version of DS, They could be useful to others.

Yep, I've been leaving it on this week and I'm finding it to be useful.  Who knows, it may even save me from using a few clicks on the keyboard.  :-)
