    Installing MC 4 on WIN7

    Hi

I have a full working XP system.

I am trying to install MC4.05 on a new fresh disk with WIN7 64bit. (I know it is not officially supported yet)

When I run SETUP I choose to install only MC. I then get list of "Pending" software to install including the sound driver, Sentinal, Mojo 64bit driver and some more.

But when I hit next I can see that just MC is installed without all other pending programs.

How can I force SETUP to install all other stuff (including MOJO drivers..)

    Thanks

Re: Installing MC 4 on WIN7

You'll have to find the individual installers and run them 'as administrator' after you've installed MC 4.0.5 - I've run into the same issue that you describe (although I wouldn't count on MOJO working - but you might as well give it a try).

So what I've been doing is running MC 4.0.5 installer, then I run the Sentinal installer as administrator, followed by the Digidesign installer 'as administrator' (in this case I downloaded the 8.0.3 digidesign installer but it probably doesn't matter if you just use the 8.0.1 version that ships with MC 4.0.5)

I'm guessing that you can run the other installers (such as MOJO) as well. You'll find them in a subfolder of the MC installation...

Good luck - and as a side, you'd really benefit from taking a ghost of your system BEFORE installing MC so that if/when something goes horribly wrong you can quickly roll back to the pre-installed state (I use Acronis TrueImage for this).

    Cheers

    Hi dor,

That's very interesting - is the bug in 4.0.5 applicable to Vista 64 as well? I wondered why some people were able to install on Windows 7 without any issues.

Out of interest - how did you update to 4.0.5 - I'm assuming you only  uninstalled Avid applications but left Digidesign and Sentinal (and MOJO drivers) installed - is that true?

Normally I uninstall everything Avid-related prior to installing updates so I expect this problem would happen again for a 4.0.5 installation with my workflow (in other words, I would have uninstalled Digidesign and Sentinal before installing 4.0.5).

Just as a matter of interest.

As a beginner to MC,  I installed a NEW drive as System disk, and then Windows 7 /32 Pro.   (4gb ram)

MC 4.05 went on without any problems, and appears to be working fine for me.

Others have noted the same success (I believe even when running a 64-bit version of Windows 7) - Maybe it has something to do with where the installer is launched from (in my case, I launch it from by data drive, not from the system drive or from CD/DVD). This variability in experience is one of the reasons Windows 7 is not yet supported by Avid, I'm sure.

My installation was from the boxed version disk via optic drive.

    Not the download version.

It might help if you tell us what the BSOD says.

    I use W7 Ultimate 64 with 4.0.5. I used it with 3.1.3.13.

And it run fine there too. With ProTools installed together.

W7 is the best PC OS ever build and not even on an SP.

This is why every company made their products compatible with it so fast already.

    Hi

I am new to WIN7.. If you can tell me where to find the report file it was generating I'll be happy to share.

I have this XP system running AVID for long time and had it on my old computer too, since MC 2.5 was out.

Thou it is not an "official" system, I can't remember ever having a blue screen crash.

    Thanks

No problem. If you left W7 at the initial state you should find the dump at the root of the C (where C is the OS disk), in form of memory.dmp. You can open this by notepad.

But if you are comfortable with XP go on and use them till things will come to MC5 and the official support from Avid's part.
