Avid Symphony & DS Nitris xw8200 software upgrade

    Hello to all,

I just got an Avid DS/SN machine and I have a few Avid related questions:

    1. I am interested what is the latest software version for Symphony Nitris which could be installed on

    HP xw8200/dual 3.4 ghz/3gb ram/quadro fx3450/Nitris classic hardware.

    2. 1. I am interested what is the latest software version for DS Nitris which could be installed on

    HP xw8200/dual 3.4 ghz/3gb ram/quadro fx3450/Nitris classic hardware.

    3. Is the dual boot with DS 10 and SN 4 possible at all ?

    Thank You very much

    steve

Welcome to the Avid forums.  This website will be your friend.  In particular, you'll want to look at Configurations > Dual-Boot Compatibility.  Next is Configurations by Version, where you can see which hardware is supported with with DS/SN versions.

    • Avid DS 10.3 with Avid Symphony 4.0.5
    • Avid DS 10.2.1 with Avid Symphony 3.5.9 to 4.0.5
    Symphony 8.8.x w/Avid Nitris DX, HP z420, Windows 10, QT v7.7.x, Hexa Core 3.2GHz, 16GB RAM, nVidia Quadro Series 2000 w/353.82. 2TB Boot, 2 x 3TB internal... [view my complete system specs]

    Randall,

thank You very much for kind words and instant help.

    Just a few more questions:

    1. Is it possible to add DUAL LINK AJA BOARD FOR DS, since there is an empty slot in xw8200 ?

    2. Is it possible to move the nitris boards to xw8400 machine ? I have read somewhere that

there is some board compatibilty issue when going from xw8200 to xw8400.

Or this is not the case, and You can easily upgrade to xw8400 ?

    Thanks again

I've moved Nitris boards from an XW8000 to an XW8400, but I'm not running Symphony, only DS 10.3

Yes you can move the boards from an 8200 to an 8400. You need to buy a different cooling fan unit from Avid as the 8200 version won't fit in the 8400.

Re: Avid Symphony & DS Nitris xw8200 software upgrade

    Hello,

I'm interested in buying some second hand AVID systems, and have found some good prices on the DS hardware, and I am really interested in getting this system, particularly for finishing RED ONE footage, after an edit on MC 4.x or Nitris DX.

If I buy the hardware, can I buy the DS software/dongle separately? What do I need to do in order to ensure that I can get the various updates, as they are released, e.g. the soon to be released 11.x ?

Has anyone on the boards gone this 'DIY' route, buying up and assembling a system which, when complete, would be 'qualified' (or at least compatible)?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jack
