Re: MC 4 not shutting down correctly after BCC 6.0.5

Just glancing through this thread. If any of you are seeing problems with BCC 6.0.4 AVX, then please contact me with the details. We have qualified BCC 6.0.4 with MC 4.+,..and that includes the Quad FX 3700 and Nvidia 182.65 driver on Win and Vista.

SQA has reported to me that BCC 6.0.5 AVX has not been tested and qualified here at Avid yet.  So, if there is an issue with that  BCC version,  I recommend speaking with Boris FX Support.

Speaking of BCC issues, I've been informed that there is a potential issue with BCC 6.0.5 causing a hang on quitting Media Composer when using certain Boris effects (believed to be in “BCC 3D Objects”). If you experience this please revert to BCC 6.0.4 until the next Boris update.

What do you mean by 'Speaking of BCC issues...' - the defect you describe is exactly what I reported at the beginning of this thread..

On my XP sys, with a 256 mb 7800 GTX card and 3,54, when doing the workflow Steve is describing, it looks like Media Composer is shutting down but I still have 50 % of CPU usage and composer.exe are still running in my task manager.

The solution is to manually shut it down in the task manager

Slots are full on my system (the old days) so really, I'd be purchasing 8 GB of RAM... the only time I've ever had memory problems with 4 GB is running Adobe CS4 ...

Yes - this is the symptom I'm describing. You'll notice that MC is running one of your cores at 100% (you have 2 core or hyperthreads then it will read 50%). So it's not just a 4.0.2 issue, I guess.

I am just guessing, seems to be one of the differences between our systems and 6,05 seems to be wanting to use more Gpu memory, your card has less mem than mine and Vista is sharing system mem out to the Video card, would be interesting to see what happened.

No, I believe that it is a GPU mem issue with 6,05

Tomas, it is a problem specific to BCC 6.0.5 AVX and from what I understand, it hasn't been tested with all releases of MC since it was released. Bear in mind, we aren’t testing their app for bugs, that’s up to them. Avid is just doing some spot checks since it goes in our box. Once we find a defect, we report it and wait for a fix from Boris Fx. Since it is their issue, it is possible that it would show up in any version of MC.

I would recommend that customers stick with BCC 6.0.4 instead of trying different versions of MC.
