    After Effects .ffx preset to Avid Deko

    Hi all, I hope this question hasn't been asked and answered 100 times already, but a quick search didn't turn up anything;

    I have a lower 3rd animation setup from After Effects that needs to go into a Deko for a live broadcast. I can save the AE animation as an .ffx file - it just consists of keyframed type animations like kerning/tracking and opacity - it doesn't contain any external effects.

    Can the Deko read these .ffx files? The file format (.ffx) itself looks like a fairly simple tab-dilneated list, though with some extra characters. If there isn't a specific translator, does the Deko have a similar "save-a-preset" format that one of our clever python/mel/script staff programmers could write up a script to do? Or is the Deko just too dissimilar?

    Thank you!

    Hi Scott8933

    I pinged Dave who specializes in deko and he said "   This is covered in training and we have KB article on it too. I'll send it to him next week."

    If you cant wait until dave is back, let me know.  Otherwise he will respond early next week.

    Thanks scott.

    Hi Scott,

    No - Deko does not interpret the native .ffx format straight into Deko -- but there is a workflow that many of our customers follow for moving media easily from AfterEffects to Deko, as a QuickTime file.

    Here is a link to the Knowledge Base with QuickTime guidelines for Deko.

    Please let me know if this help you.

    Thanks,

    Teicia

    Re: After Effects .ffx preset to Avid Deko

    Hi Scott,

    AE .ffx files can not be read into Deko.  Any character based animations, such as kerning, positioning or opacity changes, are done via Deko Motion.  You need to have the Option for Motion Timeline.  If you are uncertain go to Window>Select Layout>Motion.  The motion timeline will have icons allowing keyframes to be added (arrow with + near top left) among many other features.  Depending on the Deko model and version you can do many complex character based effects in Deko that will play in real time.
