Confirming my understanding of use of Raster Sizes in MC 3.5.1

    Hello:

Just trying to confirm if the following is correct = my understanding of use of Raster Sizes in MC 3.5.1 with Nitris DX

    1. Acquiring with Canon XH G1 camera - shooting in 60i

    2. Start MC project 1080i/59.94 Raster size 1440 x 1080

    3. Capture in footage via HD SDI with Nitris DX - In order to capture HD-SDI project raster setting is changed back to 1920x1080 - capture/log completed

    4. Ready to edit - project raster size is changed back to 1440 x 1080

    5. Edit as usual, export, etc...

My understanding is that the MC will run/process effects more efficiently creating the project & editing with the correct raster size - yes?

    Thank you for your time.

Re: Confirming my understanding of use of Raster Sizes in MC 3.5.1

I think HD-SDI has its own standards (separate from HDV).  So if you are coming out of the camera HD SDI, that should be full raster (the camera is doing the conversion to 1920) and full intraframe (no long GOP).  I'm no tv engineer, but that is my understanding.  You can then edit full 1920x1080 and export Quicktime Ref files without mixing down and all that.

So your work flow would be:

    1. Shoot with XH G1

    2. MC Project - Raster size 1920 x 1080

    3. Capture through HD SDI

    4. Leave at full raster

    5. Edit and Deliver in full 1920 x 1080

Forgot to include that I am not digitizing in from Camera (G1). I am capturing from SONY HVR1500 deck via HD SDI.

Workflow designed to not be reliant on having camera around.

    Thank you.

The HD SDI from both the camera and the deck are the same.  They are both putting out a full 1920 rastered intraframe signal.  That is the great thing about HD SDI.  It is a universal signal and the media is easier to handle in Avid (I know, I know... it takes up more drive space :)

Thank you for your quick replies. I'll keep everything from project creation to end at full raster 1920x1080 for workflow with Canon XH G1.

Re: Confirming my understanding of use of Raster Sizes in MC 3.5.1

Again, this is not camera dependent.  1920x1080 is an HD SDI thing.

If you capture directly from the firewire of the camera or export to tape (hdv using the m2t stream) then you will want to use the hdv 1440.  I am NOT trying to confuse, but since that camera has multiple inputs and outputs...

I just want to clarify that this workflow if for HD SDI.
