Sound TC in bin but doesn't come up in EDL Manager

I've seen this problem for years -- have you?

Sound TC is 19:58:08:28 in the bin, but it comes up as 00:00:00:00 in EDL Manager

I'm seeing it now where the Sound timecode is on A1 but not on A2 of the same clips

I've posted a video on YouTube showing A2 disappearing when scrolling between two clips on the timeline

Re: Sound TC in bin but doesn't come up in EDL Manager

I had this problem recently after I had turned over my audio EDLs to sound editorial.  It seemed the problem stemmed from certain shots that weren't synced during Telecine and we had to sync them in the Avid.  Essentially, the metadata wasn't showing up in the EDL because it was referencing the subclips I made from the AutoSync of the imported production audio and the captured dailies.  The EDL was showing zeros because it was referencing the ORIGINAL master clips, that had no audio data, thus the zeros, and not the subclips that actually had the correct metadata.

What I ended up doing was creating a new sequence with just the shots that were creating the zeros in the EDL, and exported an OMF 2.0 using the "Linked to" setting.  A folder was created that had the audio files with the metadata and sound editorial got their metadata from those shots that way.

Hope this helps any at all.

    Cheers,

    Yusef

Exit Avid, search and delete all MCState files, and restart Avid.   Since regularly doing this my A2 EDL problem has diminished.

I was having the same problem on a feature cut on 3.5.13 and this was the only workaround I was able to find. Total PIA but it worked.

Select the sound TC of the master clip in the bin, command x to cut, tab out of the sound TC field then back in,   command v to paste.  Save and re-export the EDL.

Here's a Youtube video of the process:

    Hey, I posted that video!

Version 5.5.3 is not immune to this bug.  Anyone found a better solution?   Or a column that will reveal which clips have this problem?  This is screwing up my EDL.

Re: Sound TC in bin but doesn't come up in EDL Manager

Happening in 5.5.1 for Windows in a different 23.98 1080p project.   This time with sound files imported separately and synced to tapeless (RED) picture.  (Previously experienced with two channel audio digitized with picture from DV tape and Sound TC coming from imported ALE file.)   A1 will have timecode, but A2, A3, etc do not.   Cut and paste from Sound TC column fixes it (fills in the TC on the empty tracks) but it is a tedious fix.   Annoying.
