MC 3.0, Vista 64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394

Subject says most of it.  Clean install of Vista64 Business (SP1), Avid, and third party applications, unable to capture via Firewire/OHCI/1394 - either "no deck installed" or "no signal present" (or "no input signal" or some such).

Have tried several different input devices (Canon GL-1, Canopus ADVC-100, JVC SR-VS30, JVC BR-3000U, DataVideo SE-900) with the same result.  Have tried many and varied machine templates - from the "right" ones to "Generics" to "wrong" ones without any success.

With every device, I can capture successfully with Windows Move Maker.  Since that works but nothing else seems to (also tried capturing with Sorenson Squeeze, and wasn't able to see any input there either), I can't help but think it's a setting somewhere in Vista that's "protecting" me, but if so I've not yet been able to stumble across it.  Would use my one tech support call to Avid, but there's no phone where the system's located and I'm cellular-challenged.

    Any help or suggestions?

Okay, found the following - Is there anything similar to this in Vista that I might be able to try?

(Windows) If after initially setting up a DV deck for the first time, or after a system recovery you cannot see the deck, manually register the DV buffers file by doing the following:

    Workaround:

    Perform the following:

    1. Go to Program Files\Common Files\Avid.
    2. Right click Dvbuffers.ax.
    3. Select Open.
    4. Choose to select the program from a list and click OK.
    5. Browse to windows/system32.
    6. Select regsvr32.exe.

Alternatively, anyone had success under XP/64?  (I know it's not supported, but this is the first "supported" system I've ever tried to run Avid on and it's giving me more headaches than any that I ever built from scratch).

Still poking at this problem - uninstalled and reinstalled MC and all related/third party apps, reinstalled, still no joy.  Installs (both last time and this time) were under Vista "Administrator" account (enabled for this purpose), no obvious errors or problems with install.

Still unable to capture MC (plugged into Pyro 1394 PCI Express, API-316 per xw4600 configuration specs), same "no deck" or "no signal" messages depending on deck template selected and/or whether deck control is enabled.

Does anyone actually have MC3(soft) working under Vista64?

I have MC 3.0 installed under Vista-64 Ultimate and have similar problems with my HDV-Tapedeck JVC BR-50HD(E) and also with my Camcorder JVC GY-HD200(E). I can capture, if the deck is set to DV-Mode, provided the deck's driver is selected manually (JVC A/V Tapedeck) with the driver installation process. In HDV-mode i get exactly what you described - no deck connected, or no input signal.

I was in touch with Avid customer support. They have tested the same JVC-deck under Vista-64 Business and had no problem. However, no success with my problem until now.

Interesting - I've never been asked for a driver for any of the devices I've attempted to capture from.  I wonder if there's a generic driver that's missing or just not installed properly on my system.  May have to try another install of Vista 64.

I was also reading another thread that at one point someone got a "Configuring Avid Media Composer" or some such message after installing ... I may have to research that more as well, because I saw a similar message but just thought it was probably normal.

Re: MC 3.0, Vista 64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394

Just to make sure, when you are trying to capture HDV your deck and project are set to HDV?

When you plugin your deck/camera (switched to HDV) is Vista 64 recognising it?

I am running MC3 on Vista Business 64 without problems and to capture HDV I use a Sony HVR-Z1 most of the time, also without any problems.

When I started up Vista I just plugged in the camera (in HDV mode) and it was recognised straight away. Not just as a generic device, Vista displayed it as a Z1!

After that I started MC3, went into the "deck configuration", selected "firewire on OHCI", then clicked on "add deck" and selected my camera from the pulldown menu.

Re: MC 3.0, Vista 64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394

In my case, I'm just trying to capture standard def.

    Vista does recognize the devices.

I've tried using deck configuration to set up various and sundry machine templates on the OHCI/firewire port - either using the "correct" ones for the particular device I'm attempting to use at the time, or the "generic" templates.

When I subsequently go to capture mode, MC doesn't see any input.

Re: MC 3.0, Vista 64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394

    MC 3.0.5, Vista-32 or Vista-64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394.

Just to make sure. I have the same problem as it was posted here. While the Sony HVR-Z1E is recognized as a device in the operation system and works properly with any other software, like Premiere Pro and others it will not be recognized within MC 3.0.5

Mojo/Digi002 and any analog or DV-deck will be recognized in deck configuration on DNA-1394 or direct/com-1. Capturing these formats on Pal25i p.e. work fine. The moment I switch off Mojo and Digi002 to capture 1080i/HDV on a separat 1394 firewire port MC 3.0 ist not recognizing the deck with no signal present on Firewire/OHCI 1394 although I have configured the deck manually as OHCI-1394/Sony HVR-Z1U-Pal. When I subsequently go to capture mode, MC 3.0.5 doesn't see any input. Even a clean reinstallation of the Avid software does not solve my problem. Firewire cards are on separat buses and meet the Avid-1394/TI specifications. I have tried all 1394 ports on the system.

I figured out that the proper infomation on Knowledge Base refere to older systems like MC 2.8 and will not help me in this case since MC 3.0 seems to be different in reference to AvidDIO.

    Help!!!!

Re: MC 3.0, Vista 64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394

I successfully digitized pal DV25 from a Sony HDV deck connected to the 4pin firewire port on the back of Mojo, I did not test directly into a computer firewire port neither capturing HDV. I know this is not very helpful but at least now You know that it can be done.

Forgive me if stating the obvious, but if you're doing standard def, the deck has to be set to downconvert "on" before connecting to the firewire port.

Ooops - just saw that you were using SD decks/cameras. Sorry.

Re: MC 3.0, Vista 64 Business, No Signal Present on FireWire/OHCI 1394

    thank you all but...

I haven´t solved the problem so far. The only way I can circumnavigate the OHCI/HDV capture problem in Vista 32/64 presently is to capture HDV on a different operation system and copy the files. This is ridicules since my hardware works with any other software product except Avid MC 3.0. Why do we suffer these simple things frequently?

This must be a poorly programmed driver issue and should not occur with professional software products like Avid MC 3.0 is even when you work on a non avid certified system configuration! I am loosing so much time on this issue and would like Avid to give me an idea how to coop with this “Mist”!

    Ernst.

I have a "very" uncertified sys using Vista 64 Ultimate and an ATI 2900 card currently, my Canoups 300 works both ways and my SD and HD cam also works perfect for importing media, haven´t tried export to tape yet.

The firewire connection used is one of those built into my motherboard so, sorry, not much help from me, just wanted to tell.

Mine is very uncertified as well and I have a Gigabyte mobo too, it has a certified TI firewire controller anyway; I use it for external disks however as it is convenient for the front panel connector; I run the Mojo via a certified Pyro card. Maybe the Pyro of the original poster is sitting in the wrong slot.

No Pyro, no Mojo here, maybe that could be an explanation to the somehow unexpected success.
