Re: M.C. 3.0 Available for Download

    BLKDOG:

revealed a flaw in Apple's bus architecture acknowledged by Cupertino. It will be fixed sooner rather than later.

Leopard 10.5.4 should be here soon. Hopefully with a fix to firewire in there.

    brainburst:

Also, truly annoying, Avid blaming Apple for their firewire problems! Why aren't other companies with firewire based video devices having problems? The Aja IO works with firewire,  Motu's v4 and v3 work via firewire.
Avid does firewire the wrong way. That's why it doesn't even work with standard firewire decks correctly. Their hardware tries to hog the bus. I bet this won't be a quick fix because it was badly implemented from the outset. When and if there is a fix it will probably result in poorer DNA performance.

Setting Avid aside for the moment... here's a little general perspective on Apple, firewire and Leopard...

Wrong Kirk, read my post and look at the specs properly - 17" MBP, MC 3.0, 10.5.3, QT 7.4.5 and analog Mojo.  I didn't realize this was a 8 core thread . . . I thought it was a MC 3.0 software thread . . . . I am having no problems with this configuration and thought some people might like the feedback.

The problems noted in those posts are drive problems. I repeat what I stated previously. Video devices from other vendors are working but not Avid's much more expensive DNA products.
I'm not saying that Apple is blameless, just that Avid's way of doing things makes matters even worse. This fix will probably be weeks away at best. We recently purchased 62 new computers none of which will run Avid software reliably. Guess what we will be running?

Re: M.C. 3.0 Available for Download

    Yeah Brainburst,

It seems so strange to me. I mean all my other gear and software is upward compatible. Usuallly it promts a message like: "Hey, your project file is from an old version of the application. Would you like to upgrage it to be compatible with the new one?"

It seems like the DNA firmware should do that too and that the avid software could just automatically update itself just like my Firefox or Quicktime does.  I know that sounds really Buck Rogers and all, but I'm just saying...

    Kirk

    BLACKDOG

By a clean install of Leopard do you mean an instal and archive? That is to erase everything in the computer as opposed to a OS upgrade?

    In order of preference:

    1. Wipe HD and install Leopard

    2. Archive and install

    275. Upgrade OS.

If it's not convenient to wipe the HD, an Archive and install should do it.

That's a very interesting piece of news. Is it because the leopard patch is going to take a while? Also, will it be a fully functional version of the app running on Tiger?

Not really, no. The two were being "Fixed" simultaneously. Tiger just is getting done first.

Yes, it will be fully functional/

Re: M.C. 3.0 Available for Download

so I don't need to upgrade to leopard?  I already downloaded the current install for 3.0,  will I be able to download the 3.0 for tiger?  how will I know that it is ready?
