    Cannot find project. HELP

     Hi.

I'm a newbie, so forgive me if this is really simple..

I've just had to reconfigure my hard drive due to gremlins. I backed up all projects/ omf files. I now want to open one of my projects and it's not showing in either the projects folder or the attic. However, it DOES show when I use the media tool although some of the other projects don't, and the media is all there.

Is there a way to relink 'backwards' from the media to the project, or some quick way of working out where the project is lurking??

    Hope that all makes sense.

    Thanks

The project is in a folder of the same name.  Have you simply searched for that folder?

yeah. I just did a search for the project name, and also a generic search for *.avp files and it didn't show up in either.

Randall, I seem to remember something about opening the media tool, creating a new bin and dragging the files from the media tool into it, and new pointer files constructed. Haven't tried this in years.

    Re: Cannot find project. HELP

Larry.. I just did what you suggested, and while it does create new clips, it still leaves me with the problem of not having my original project, and therefore, not having my original bins/ sequences etc.

    Any other ideas?

Hmmmm...since you say all this happened after a reconfiguration, can you try retreating to an earlier configuration that pre-dates the Gremlins?  If you can, perhaps the attic files at least will come back, if not the project files themselves. Other than that, without any access to the original project files in any way, I guess you'll have to start over.

    Re: Cannot find project. HELP

Unfortunately, i had to completely reformat the hard drive (everything was saved on external drives), so no way I can go back.....

    .... I'm usually so anal about backing up bins/projects. Can't believe I didn't this time !!

Oh well, guess it's back to the start for me !

    Thanks for your help.

Well, at least you don't have to start from total base zero. You still have new clips created from the original media files so at least you have all your source material online. Now on to clip and bin orginization and sequence editing - Good luck!
