Avid MC 2.7.5 Crashing - Please Help!

Please help me! I am running MC 2.7.5 on OS 10.4.10. I installed Avid Log Exchange today when trying to clean up some ALE files, but after installing it, I couldn't get Media Composer to open any of my projects! I trashed MCStates and tried creating new projects and users, but nothing worked.

I then uninstalled Avid Log Exchange. Since then, MC won't even open! The black triangle in the dock flashes for a moment, then disappears, and the program never gets a chance to start up.

I checked the Mac OS X console and got the following error:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Date/Time: 2008-01-07 14:12:20.709 -0800
    OS Version: 10.4.10 (Build 8R3041)
    Report Version: 4

    Command: AvidMediaComposer
    Path: /Applications/Avid Media Composer/AvidMediaComposer.app/Contents/MacOS/AvidMediaComposer
    Parent: WindowServer [68]

    Version: 2.7.5.38470 (2.7.5)

    PID: 481
    Thread: Unknown

    Link (dyld) error:

    Referenced from: /Applications/Avid Media Composer/AvidMediaComposer.app/Contents/MacOS/libameDLL.dylib
    Expected in: /Library/Application Support/Avid/libCore.dylib
    --------------------------------------------------------------

As far as I can tell, I don't even have a file named "libCore.dylib" in the folder - I see a "libercore.dylib," but that is it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried reinstalling the MC app and repairing permissions? libCore.dylib is a file within the contents of the MC app...no need to mess with any of that stuff. But if it is missing, something went wrong. A reinstall should help.

And make sure you install the ALE that comes with the version of MC you are installing.  The two apps share files and need to be installed from the same release - this was probably the origin of the problem you experienced.

Re: Avid MC 2.7.5 Crashing - Please Help!

I reinstalled and that seemed to fix the problem. The version of Avid MC that I have on DVD is 2.7.2, but I had downloaded the upgrade to 2.7.5 before beginning the latest project. When I installed ALE, I did install from the 2.7.2 DVD.

Is there a downloadable upgrade for ALE, so I can reinstall it to be compatible with the current version of MC?

Thanks for all the help jdw and janusz!

There should be another folder called "Other Installers" or something like that from the archive you downloaded that includes ALE.
